TRIBES: Vengeance - Release & Demo Soon

A post to the TribalWar Forums by Vivendi Universal's Adam "Menzo" Kahn has word on what's up for the multiplayer shooter sequel now that beta testing has begun, predicting a single-player demo next month, with the full game's release expected the month after:
Now that we've launched the multi-player beta, what's next for Tribes: Vengeance?

- We have a single-player demo that will be launching some time in September. I'm not going to get more specific than a month right now.
- The team is feverishly working to finish the game. There are a lot of people not getting much sleep in Canberra right now - I'm sure they can use all the support/thanks/kudos/bug reports/beer you can send their way
- We're currently planning to have the game at the World Cyber Games Championships from October 7-10 in San Francisco. It should be a cool event. We'll likely use the multiplayer beta in a tournament and give out some pretty cool prizes (high-end CPUs and videocards). Expect Tribes: Vengeance-related VIPs to be on hand to sign posters and other Tribes paraphanelia. Word on the street is that we'll be making a limited edition T-shirt to give away that should be pretty cool.
- Tribes: Vengeance will ship in early October worldwide

It's been a long road, but a great one. Shipping a game like this on time is a HUGE accomplishment, and one that shouldn't be overlooked.

First of all.. UT2004 is a TRIBES RIP OFF. Thats why TV seems *so much like UT2004 with Jet Packs*.. Its not the other way around. Its freaking scarry how many people in this thread cant grasp such a SIMPLE point.

The UT with jetpacks comments is because the game doesnt feel as fluid as T1 or T2 (specifically T2 classic) Yes, the jets are fast but it feels like your heavier and you have uber jets dragging you along. Also, the jetting and skiing is kind of goofed up. In T1 and T2 it was "jet" and ski downhill. In T.V its more complicated because you need to use seperate binding to slect jet, to jump jet and to ski...kind of goofy and akward.

For some reason T1 and T2 had the fluid movement that led to exciting flag chases etc. I just dont get the same thrill or feel in T.V. Its hard to explain.

I almost feeel like I would have rather waited for a rebuild of a newer torque engine etc for the next tribes game.

Secondly there are several things in this game that are CLEARLY Tribes and not UT.. nor did UT2004 borrow them. Like the Equipment stations, various equipment, aspects of game play etc.. Just Becuase UT Ripped off vehicles and a few other things from tribes you guys are now going to call the TRIBES GAME the imposter??

You guys should be taken into the street and beaten.

Oh and you could not jet/ski from base to base "in a few seconds" in T2 as suggested below. On some maps it could take quite some time to get between locations.

I don't know if this is the actual case, but it seems to me like the jetpack recharge is a lot faster in T:V, which might be part of the reason it doesn't feel like "Tribes." Just seems like everyone is bouncing off the map, as if it's a zero gravity game. The old Tribes required a little more running, I believe. The spinfusor disc also seems faster. *shrug* Whatever, the game is fun and I'll probably buy it, but it ain't no Tribes 1, nor is it better. Tribes 1 is a classic. This game just slaps some Tribes features on what is basically a modified version of UT 2004.

Its just shoot here then there. Its not the long distance trips to base anymore. Its like a Jetpack fighter. Vehicles are crap. Its best to be a Sniper or a heavy and lob nades.

Ugh, that sounds like a horrible stupid fragfest...
I was already asking myself why people say you cant defend well... until now in every teamgame I know there were always multiple good ways of defending the base/flag/whatever. But I guess its because of the small maps then. Will there be bigger ones in the final? If not I cant really imagine that skiing is faster than in T2, since you would be at the enemies base in a few seconds then, even with the speed of T2.

Damn this is some fun shit. It does feel a bit off cause of the no stealth and less defensy feel it has. All the games I played have been basically an all out war.

Still pretty fucking fun if I do say so myself. The weird little pod flying vehicle is fun as fuck to play around with but still it kinda feels a bit weird.

I also miss the defense-oriented gameplay of Tribes 2, but I'm still loving Tribes: Vengeance. I didn't expect it to be like T2. It feels a more claustraphobic, though. Hopefully there will be some larger maps in the final version.

That being said, I also couldn't wait and gave into the dark side , but now I'll be able to play the game for a week until I have to go back to college

Apart from the complete system lock ups I get when I access an inventory station some times it seems really good.

its a known issue, most everyone is getting it. I've been told the solution is to pick your favorite at the beginning of the round until its adressed but I keep spwaning with the default medium armor/loadout.

Loving the T:V beta. Have been a card-carrying member of the evil empire for quite some time, so I've been playing this since it hit Fileplanet.

I'm starting to see structure arise now, and since I've always been a fan of playing a defensive heavy, this actually saddens me a bit as there isn't quite as much target practice coming my way now.

The weapons seem to need some tweaking, but that's minor. If only I could figure out how to use the RL. That, and the weapon image bug for heavies is driving me nuts. Switch from the mortar to anything else, and the image of the mortar is imposed over the current weapons image.

I hope it's like Breadman says, cause I have been playing about 40 games now, and in every one people did the same thing; charge and kill. So I have pretty mixed feelings about this game right now. Too bad that there is no stealth at all anymore with the backstabbing instakilling

I really do hope I'm just playing with people that are very new to tribes and that things will change. Like teamplay for example. Im the only guy who plays as Heavy, sets upp turrets, deploy stations, repair stations, and drive that puny mobile base close to the enemy base so ppl can spawn closer etc etc...

AND! the voice system is sadly not as fun or good as the one in T2. (Man I had some good times with that ) And is it just me or is the Mortar really weak? Same with the one on that transport ship: HUGE explosion, very little dmg.

This game is not Tribes2. If the only thing you liked about Tribes2 was the defense-oriennted structure coupled with stealth and a slower paced game, then you may not like this game.

Nor is this game Tribes1.

This game is a compilation of Tribes1 and Tribes2 into a marble-cake blend where the fast-paced action of Tribes1 is brought back while not totaly alienating Tribes2 players as certain aspects like vehicles and slower-paced weapons were brought in as well. The game is a sequal, not a photo-copy.

IMO it's better than Tribes2 and could inevitably become better than Tribes1 was. The only thing that is holding it back now, and one reason why I think it's so offense-oriented, is because this is the first time people have gotten to play... and teh first time, all you want to do is jump in and blow shit up. That will fade with time and I believe a structure will arise.

It doesnt have the T1 feel.

I wonder why that is... If you want to play T1, go ahead... I just hopped on a server last night, actually, after playing TV for a bit just to compare the two. Apart from some z-buffer issues I've had for years, T1 is still an awesome game.

You want T1, go play T1.

O yeah...No stealth? Is it in game or did the game just become a huge blast fess????

It seems its all offensive no defence or stealth kind of stuff. The game has went pure action. Sad really.

Gun Towers are pathetic nobody uses them. Placeables are weak as hell no threat. Anything you ride or get in sucks.

It doesnt have the T1 feel. Ill pass this one up. BFV(pointofexistance) mod makes my day and is better then this beta.

The action became Quake stle I hate quake style.

There are server filters. Check out http://www.tribalwar.com/forums/showthread.php?t=317608 KineticPoet says they forgot to include the default filters and they give an example of how to create your own. There is also a bunch more information about how to tweak your game or host your own server on http://www.tribalwar.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=239

Well you hit on one of the big reasons they're doing SP in the first place: "for players who have never played Tribes before." One of the main rationales wasn't to give you a great SP game, it's to help make the entire game more accessible for the general masses.

I think it's a great tactic, and is bound to help ease some more people into the series.

Yeah it does sort of seem like a waste of time, I doubt the single player game will end up being more than a tutorial for players who have never played Tribes before, I don't know how many levels of single play there will be but it never fails that if you play a demo you end up seeing 1/3 of the game it seems.

Personally I could do without the single player portion of the game altogether, one time play through (if that) and then all that extra content just sits on your HD idle, undoubtedly the multiplayer portion shares some of this content but still, Tribes = multiplayer.
