And people who think they are running a SIMULATION with a gamepad are just fooling themselves.

same thing with people who think they are running a sim with a keyboard and mouse

rkone, you've obviously never played either, redline is nothing like gta, i have both

Care to explain?

In the demo all I could do was drive around a large city. Although this city had no pedestrians, and was relatively plain/empty, it certainly reminded me of GTA3. The point of redline seemed to be to find other racers so you can challenge them (which was pretty tedious), but I never got past that point, because even when I did find ones I could challenge, I didn't know how. Anyway, it seems like all you do is drive around the city, get chased by cops, race other people, get different cars. All of this was in GTA3, the only thing not in GTA3 was the garage that made you go into mind-numbing detail to upgrade/repair parts on your car (one car I bought came without a tire. So I bought one, but when I tried to put it on, I was told it was the wrong size for the rim. I look at the rim, no indication of the size it needs. I take off another tire, which is 205/55. So I get a 205/55 tire. Wrong size. Ah, 205/55 R17 is what I need, not 205/55 R18. Fun.)

you may notice I never said one is better than the other

I didn't mean to pick out your post to respond to in particular NSi, I meant to be responding to some of the other posts in the thread. Yours just happened to be similar with this comment:
Also, anything meant to be played with a retarded gamepad is absolutely not a sim and is actually borderline retarded unless it's an action game

WipeoutXL was not an action game. It was also definately not "borderline retarded".

So is THIS game good or not?

No, it's a poor man's GTA3.

love these people who judge what everyone is allowed to have fun with, especially the ones that say one type of racer is a good game, but another is a waste of time.
If you read my post carefully, you may notice I never said one is better than the other. Myself, I actually prefer the action/semi-sim variety, preferring Race Driver 2 and CMR04 over their more realistic siblings. Real sims are way too exhausting and finicky for my taste and my time.
What I DID say was that people who think Gran Turismo is a simulation (as opposed to action racers) are not thinking straight. And people who think they are running a SIMULATION with a gamepad are just fooling themselves.
I never said you are not allowed ot have fun with whatever or any of the other stuff you made up. I too enjoyed WipeoutXL, GT1, GT2, Carmageddon, NFSU, etc, with a gamepad. Now, my personal recommendation for more middle-ground games is to absolutely play them with a wheel and pedals for maximum enjoyment.

racing games suck...especially ones about street racing

Sim racer= Gran Turismo

Arcade Racer = Carrmageddon

both are/were great games,

move along with your worthless comments

ok ok, now that i think about it, carmageddon was great..the sequel was the best one....i never raced, i just killed everyone

and road rash

so i will refine my comment to, all realistic racing games where you circle a track over and over suck

The days of Fatal Racing seems like yesterday for me.

Fatal Racing (aka Interplay's Whiplash) was bad ass. One of those games that was just plain fun. I'd always put the number of laps to max and damage to max and inevitably nobody would finish the race because everyone would be destroyed. The split screen was fun, and your choice of car actually mattered on certain maps. Good times.

Also, anything meant to be played with a retarded gamepad is absolutely not a sim and is actually borderline retarded unless it's a pure action game such as carmageddon, burnout, NFSU, et al.

I love these people who judge what everyone is allowed to have fun with, especially the ones that say one type of racer is a good game, but another is a waste of time. I'm glad you like sims. I myself have played a few and found them somewhat interesting. In the end however, it's still a game, and I judge it by how much enjoyment I receive from it. Saying sim racers are the only good racers is like saying team-based FPSs are the only good FPSs. You only end up missing out on gems like Thief.

As for gamepad racers being retarded - FYI, I really enjoyed Wipeout XL, and you can't convince me otherwise.

The days of Fatal Racing seems like yesterday for me. I invested countless hours playing the game splitscreen with my best friend on my PC, and I never had so much with a racing game, as I had with Fatal.

Gran Turismo a sim racer? wtf are you smoking?
GTR is a sim racer. Grand Prix Legends is a sim racer. Gran Turismo is an action arcade racing game meta-sim (it simulates being a simulation). It's in pretty much the same league as a codemasters racing game such as Colin McRae series or Race Driver 1-2, all very nice action racing games but far from sims. Also, anything meant to be played with a retarded gamepad is absolutely not a sim and is actually borderline retarded unless it's a pure action game such as carmageddon, burnout, NFSU, et al.

yea i do, the main rifle split in half and transformed into a saw blade melee weapon...cool idea

and in MP if you used the saw blade and jumped you could fly around...heh. Great stuff.

I think I remember that the weapon morphed into any weapon you needed as long as you had a module thingy to plug into it. I'm pretty sure I still have the game buried somewhere, gotta pull it out and take it for a spin.

anyone remeber that cheesy FPS/vehicular combat game that came out about 5 years ago called "Redline"? Goddamn that was fun multiplayer. Some of the most over-the-top MP maps I've ever seen. The single player was fun in its own goofy way as well.

Racing games are god if you own a wheel. I'm still crying and praying for GTR to come out.
