If anyone has the gray screen, please report if you have SP2 installed, as right after installing that caused the gray screen with depth on.
I do get the gray screen with depth enabled under WinXP SP2 with a 6800U (65.62 Forceware).

@StreetP.
What exactly is the problem you are having? Does it not start at all? What video card are you using?

geez, 200mb for 2min of play?
The only puzzle in the whole demo took me 6 seconds to solve the first time around. Nevertheless I liked what I saw... now hopefully they will fix the depth bug for the retail version

Yeah, the game looked much better when I just went through it this second time. I think it was just such a drastic shock considering I had been playing Uru the day before and recalling my initial amazement when I loaded up that first world/level from Myst III. This time around, I did not focus on the fuzziness as much and I picked up on a few more of the little extra effects (moving sky, water mist effect, lighting on the chair, smaller trees swaying, etc.)
I am amazed by how short that demo is, but I have no doubt that I will be picking up this game. I just hope they can sort out the depth issue with my 6800 GT (everything else worked fine, promotional slides included) by launch. It was fun to think about having a new take on the world and I am, for once, interested in the story.
The camera will help, too.
Is it coming out on DVD at launch? I did not see any detail about that over at EBG.c. I know they make their way there eventually, but I was not aware this one would be pure DVD.
Wondering if, but doubting that, the game will have a CE, Ray

I posted below that the game ran fine with depth blur but artifacting or errors. I found the glitches were caused by the 2xAA I had on.
Also, after I just installed SP2 fo Windows I get a gray screen, but if I turn off depth blur it's fine. Glad I got to see it before, but it really wasn't that noticable of an effect, maybe a different area during day might have shown off the blur better.

Was all the demo just the bedroom and the chamber below, as soon as I pulled that lever it ended with some slides. That was so short I was caught off gaurd.
That puzzle sort of reminds me of the last puzzle in the original myst. This one was simple, I messed up the first time doing the code, but I was suprised when I did it correctly the 2nd time without wasting a single click.
I should put this on my laptop to try it out on my 32inch tv, it will probably hide the fact that it is a little fuzzy and make the colors much more intense. Though, all the screenshots seem razor sharp at gamespot, strange.
The depth of field worked for me. You'll notice it easily at the begining position. When you look at the railing closest to you above the water, the water becames unfocused while railing stays sharp, even at the edges. Then looking at the water will be the opposite of course.
I have a 6800nu, which the game did not detect and then told me my PC failed the minimum requirements and to proceed with caution. Besides that the game ran fine, but I did get graphical glitches now and then, and total screen corruption at the promotional slides, which went back and forth. Though, I am overclocking my card, but if D3 can handle the overclock anything should.
Also, I don't mind it being a little fuzzy, the full motion video is worth it. Much better than the last game, here it all blends better, and more of it. The trees swaying, lights flickering, bugs flying, clouds passing, all just awesome.
I can't wait for it, and on DVD finally. I wonder how many dvds it will be if this short demo was only 200mbs :O

Yeah, I played the demo of it under WinXP as well. I can't remember if I had to change the compatibility mode or not though.

I thoguht in some aspects it wasn't as good as Myst3 but others it was better. The nice opening door and flipping book pages effects along with the much smoother fully rotating camera seemed better than 3. 3 had more vibrant colors and was sharper in quality, but the FMV integration wasn't as good as this is and the 3D camera affect in M3 felt more like a fish-eye, while this does not.
You take some away and you get some more... bummer they can't mix the two.
I will say if the puzzle in this level is any indication, I like this better than all other Myst games. I love myst but I didn't like the ungodly puzzles it threw at you many a time.

Speaking of RealMyst (Myst 1 redone in a realtime 3D engine), I've got a copy of it laying around. But now that computers are powerful enough to play it smoothly, it won't play on current OS's!
Typical. :-/

...I will have to play it some more.
Honestly, what I want to call this post is "Holy crap - is that it?" Surely I must have missed some stuff. I mean, I just walked into the room, turned on the two lamps, grabbed the necklace, played the movie of the girl running away, solved the tile puzzle, looked at the locking mechanism, played the Atrus' clip, and pulled the handle.
That was the end of the demo? Hope I missed a bunch more.
Maybe I am missing my rose colored glasses, but I could have sworn Myst III looked a bit sharper, more vibrant, was more creative, and had more realistic (relatively ;P) touches.
Either way, it is really hard going back to this type of gameplay after experiencing the living, breathing 3D world of Uru.
Still, it does have its charm. The colors are a bit subdued and the images are a bit too soft (yes, I am playing at 1024x768) and it really has that plastic look/feel of the original Myst game. It is not terrible, but it does take me out of the world a bit - I no longer feel that I am in a vibrant world. Still, there are a lot of nice touches - the FMV (please don't kill me for saying that,) the in-game animations, the music, the little touches you do not immediately notice, a realitively good fake lighting effect, sound, etc.
I do think it feels a bit behind the world that Myst III created, but it is all good Myst fun. The one puzzle I solved was not overy obtuse and the story does at least seem interesting. Instead of playing through these massive, massive worlds and randomly finding books with the babbling children, you are already presented with what happened to the children, who the little girl was, what Atrus is doing or did, etc.
I know this is mean to say...but I hated the kids in the first game, much less in game four. I will save them, but only for Atrus - but, if it was "accidental," I would obviously feel very sorry <cough, cough> for killin them.
MWA HAHAHAH!
Just telling people to pretend that I am not a Myst fan :D, Ray

F3h, I get the same thing.
Everything works fine - I get the two logo sequences, Atrus' update, I check all my settings, select new game, I load up the demo start file, and..............I get my blue, transparent hand on a gray screen.
DAMN IT, I WAS ABLE TO RUN DOOM 3 AT 1280X1024, BUT NOW I NEED TO UPGRADE FOR Myst IV!!!
Well, from the presentation aspect, it looks like they made some nice effort. Now...er..where is the game?
Edit: Just to clarify, it passes all of my system except for the graphics card as well; in that section, I just get the 'ol question mark. However, it does approve my video adapter driver?!?
Hoping this one is more Myst III and less Riven, Ray (who loves Uru most)
