bid: I saw that exact same effect on my 9800XT while I was playing Far Cry. Those artifacts are caused by your Radeon overheating.
I have to leave my box's side panel off for airflow to prevent that from showing up.

Doom3 Performance on Ti4400 |

My specs are: Athlon 64 3200+, MSI K8T Neo2 FISR motherboard, 1GB Kingston HyperX RAM, GeForce4 Ti4400. I have to say, I'm pretty impressed with the performance and look of the game. I was pretty sure I was going to need to get a new video card at this point, but it looks like I should be able to hold off.
Granted, I'm not able to max this out, but it still looks and performs pretty well for me. At 1024x768 with medium settings and anti-aliasing off, it generally runs OK, but gets a little choppy. However, when I go to 800x600, it is really smooth and a great experience. I know it would be a lot better at high quality and 1024x768 and with anti-aliasing on, but given the card I'm using, I'm really impressed with how good the experience is.
Just figured I'd post this for any other people with a video card like this who might be wondering what to expect.

I thought the game delivered on every promise...id never claimed it would be the "second coming" for PC games as far as innovation goes. Graphically though, id has raised the bar and I can't wait to see what the engine can do under the more, shall I say, creative devs out there. We'll leave the new revolution in gameplay to Half Life 2. Still thoroughly enjoying every minute of Doom III.;)
Everyone's entitled to their own opinion and it's your own problem if you feel like targetting those who actually like the game, whether you agree or not. (as for the hardcore "fanbois"..their mind is already made up and they're free game for bashing ^-^ )

Release a great 3D engine with a shallow single player game attached: Check.
Mainstream magazines give it rave reviews: Check.
id fanboys panic and shout down anyone who says that the game is shallow: Check.
But wait.
id fanboys fall back on the superior multiplayer argument: Not this time around--at least not until they make everyone pay more money for multiplayer in the undoubtedly upcoming multiplayer expansion pack.
I'll just wait patiently for the next big release and judge it as objectively as I judged Doom 3. I lose no sleep over bad video games.

I remember the first time I played Quake, I hit this square pad in the floor and these two blocks came out of the ground and moved into the wall. when the door open I shat myself. No really... I was so scared (lights were off, headphones on) I really shat myself...
I have doom3 sitting in my car while I count down the 107 minutes until I get off work... will I need new to pickup some new underwear on the way home in prep for the gaming tonight?

"If your skillz suck so hard you have to play on normal, you deserve a 4 hour playing time."
I haven't read all the comments yet.. cuz I had to reply on this friggin' pathetic comment! First of all, it's no excuse to be a 4 hour game even if it's played on "Fagget", "Babygirl", "Ultra-Cyber-Loser" or "easy"! Furthermore.. you're comment.. it just makes me feel like I have to brag a bit! I call myself the friggin' best player at Enemy Territory.. having a Accuracy score of 48 percent minimum!.. But still I play SP games on normal.. because hard most of the time makes enemies strafe like psycho players in a multiplayer game thinking they can avoid headshots! It just makes it sooo unrealistic in a SP game! Or another thing.. the enemies needs a whole clip to die or they can't miss. There are but a few games I believe to be balanced enough to play on hard and still be fun, although I can't recall the titles.
Pfew.. that's out. Now I'll continue reading.
Have fun playin' macho-man..

Got my copy of DOOM 3 at my local EB along with the strategy guide. Whole shee-bang was $70.
Cannot wait to go home and install it. My current hope is that I can wait until sundown to play it, but I know that won't happen.
It's fun to be excited about a game. ID never disappointed me! |

I upgraded some hardware to play Far Cry and I think I'm falling short for whenever my Doom 3 arrives.
Video: Gainward 5900XT Golden Seal (overclocks) CPU: P4 2.8 (overclocked to 3.06) RAM: 1 GIG Corsair XMS Audio: Audigy Z2 with Inspire T5400 speakers Monitor: Samsung 191t Flat Screen
This isn't braggin, heck I could barely get Far Cry to run decent. I'm just wondering and asking you guys how this setup will run Doom 3. Thanks for any help. I have a similar rig, no overclocking and a GF FX5700 Ultra.
runs smooth as the prom queen's thigh at 1024x768 with high detail.

I have to commend my local eb games... My wife was kind enough to pre-order my copy for my 29th birthday last Saturday. She put the receipt in a birthday card for me. But I digress... Anyway, being the outstanding wife that she is, she checked in with my local EB today and the store manager said that they had sent an employee to go and pick up their copies today as opposed to waiting for them to be delivered tomorrow. So, I "should" be able to swing by eb and pick up my copy today... If not, oh well, I am patient I'm a NIN fan so I know how to be patient...

Just beat the first mission after all Hell breaks loose (pun intended). My worries of this not being Doom were for nothing. This is the Doom I played religiously over 10 years ago. It's like the world originally envisioned brought closer to life with new technology. Except Doom is now about a million times more creepy and way easier on the eyes. Finally those imps actually do something. The game even runs smoothly in the heat of battle, which is AWESOME. I love the radio chatter and people going nuts. That one lost soul watching you is great.
Fucking great first impressions, man. This could have been the ultimate let down, but they somehow pulled it off.
Oh yeah, and hit Ctrl Alt ~ then type "give doom95" without quotes for a treat
