DOOM 3 Trailer

Commemorating the final weekend before the game hits store shelves, the final official DOOM 3 trailer is now available offering one last appetizer for the imminent shooter remake. The clip is a 40 MB download, available on 3D Gamers, ActionTrip, Computer Games Online, Doom3.de, Doom3Maps.de, FilePlanet (registration required), FileShack (registration required), Fragland.net, Gamer's Depot, Gamer's Hell, GameSpot (streaming for free), GameSpot DLX (registration required), Gamehelper, Gaming Horizon, GenGamers, OzForces, and Yahoo! Games Domain. Also, a post on the Shack forums (thanks Ant) points out a post on The Awful Forums (subscription required) that notes an Easter Egg in the trailer where the original DOOM marine's face can be seen, as depicted in this screenshot. In further DOOM 3 hysteria, there is also story on IGN about their ecstasy from getting their advance copy of the game running.

I got $30 worth of trade ins and spent $20 out of pocket for DOOM3.

after playing for a bit, I have come to the conclusion that the GAME LACKS CHARACTER.

Ive never said it before, but Im sure Ill say it again.

I hope cool skins and mods for the game will help it out.

cause the flashlight shit, got old fast. and having enemeies that slide/jerk themselves to the left or right as you shoot them, gets stale after awhile.

nothin says great gameplay like spawing enemies behind you,

woo-

..oh well-

although I will never buy or play the fullversion of FarCry because I dont go for cartoony ass centric, cheerleader eidtion colored games, (shame on you UT2k4) ..i remember having an infinately more COHESIVE experience playing the island demo.. I remember trying to 'fuck' with teh enemies and throw rocks at them while hiding in the bushes and shit.

with doom3 its.. hear a groan. flashlight. shoot shoot.
turn around. shoot.
flashlight turn a corner. groan noise. imp spawns. shoot.

flashlight. touch monitor screen, door opens. groan. shoot.

blaH.

Some enterprising hackers have already managed to get a rudimentary game of co-op going using the warezed game. Bodes well for future possibility.

I also started on developing a game server which could link different systems including Half-Life and Quake 2 so that a player could teleport from one system to another still carrying their same gear...
I was thinking of writing an open master game server that indie games could use to authenticate and server track with. Just a lite thing with a php interface for server browsing. How far did you get with your server there ?

It's a neat idea but I think load times are prohibitive for that sort of thing...

That cause your judging the game by the demo. There is quite a lot more variety in Far Cry than at first glance of the rather poor demo.
Like really fucking shitty ladders. GRRR. That nearly made me quit the game and take it back after the carrier level. How could they miss such an obvious flaw like that? Supposedly fixed in 1.2 but I hear that has it's own problems.

The game is not flawless but if you can look around the flaws (That don't actually crop up that often. Just they're really annoying when they do) it is a very fun game.

If you have stolen Doom3, you just plain lack character
I've said it before... I'll say it again.
Legally speaking, it's not stealing. It's copyright infringement.
Still wrong, but they are different evils.

If you have stolen Doom3, you just plain lack character. Character is something that people get through the coninuous practice of goodness.

So you'll hear it rarely, but when you do, perk your ears up & listen, "That guy's got character". If you hear those words, find out who they are talking about. This is the kind of person that you want as a friend.

Honestly, that just seems like a weak, self-serving rationalization.

I have a friend that has pirated the game, but as much as I want it, enough to pre-order at three places, I just cannot bring myself to pirate the game.

Would it be nice? Yes.

Do I want to play it? Yes.

Am I DYING to get my hands on the game? Yes.

Is it right to steal? No.

I know, I know, that makes me a big hippy and pansy and whatever else. I just think it is very important to do the "right" thing when you can and, above that, to not do everything you just feel like doing or want to do.

Realistically, if I did that...I would be rude to people, maybe kill a few, steal whatever I want, etc.

From there, I get caught on two items:

1. Wow, that is a pretty jacked up world.

2. Those are all things I do not like and do not want people to do to me.

Hence, I cannot personally justify that action, though I very much want to play the game.

Silly that way ,
Ray

One thing to mention is that I started something called the Quake 2 League back in 1997 and ran the deathmatch database on planet quake, and then started running the RocknServer game servers for Team Fortress Classic and Quake3. I was also involved in standardizing server logging of stats so that we could tie all the servers together. I also started on developing a game server which could link different systems including Half-Life and Quake 2 so that a player could teleport from one system to another still carrying their same gear...like take a flag from a team on one server and run to another game on another server, etc. I also started developing my own game engine.

But, nobody would pay for it even the 1,000 players who visited my servers each day didn't even send a penny. It's all over now, I couldn't afford the bandwidth and had to take a day job and go back to school. The point is that if you don't pay for it then it will go away after awhile. You must support your software developers or else criminals and/or government will take over. Can you imagine how watered down Doom would be if there was mandated sensorship? Can you imagine what kind of crappy games we would get if it was criminals that were producing the games? Come one! Support idsoftware! Mow a few lawns, or paint some curb numbers! The money is out there, just work for it and buy the game.

Ray, you're not in the Chicago-land area are you?

I'm figuring that since the Chicago Best Buy is one of the "Doom at 12:01 am" stores they're not likely to put it on shelves early like some other Best Buys I've been reading about. planetdoom.com forums have a thread listing where people have supposedly picked it up.

Good luck!

It is out at select stores, Best Buy being one of the easier ones to find, but not anywhere in this area.

Hoping tomorrow is a lucky day,

Ok, I've read a bunch of this thread (not all though) and I can't tell if anyone has actually bought D3 yet at retail without a pre-order. For clarification and to passify me until wednesday, can anyone tell me if it is actually on store shelves yet anywhere? Thanks and I realize that this information is somewhere in this thread, I'm just too tired to look.

I just called my local GameStop. Apparently some stores have a lot more pre-ordered copies, and will indeed be opening tomorrow at midnight, but not my store. The guy said that the store I bought it from has a huge pre-order for Halo2...I don't think the guys there are old enough to understand who idsoftware is, much less the difference between a well made game with lots of finish like Doom3 and something that corporate suits have decided would bring in the money. I could take my voucher over to a GameStop that will be opening tomorrow night, but I'm a little leary about that...something could go wrong. Besides I think it would be less of a problem at the store I ordered it from and when they open at 10am on Tuesday I will probably be the only nerd waiting at the door.

Well, the engine itself is very impressive. Have been playing SP a bit and it certainly is atmospheric, tad repetitive after a while mind (walk down corridor... zombie jumps out.. kill zombie..repeat and rinse). I like the PDA you have, and the level of interaction with environment.

Multiplayer (yes... it seems to work - I was surprised too) seems interesting, netcode seems to be slight improvement on Q3 however 4 player limit is a shame if you prefer big battles, but as someone has said id/modders will be changing this.

Well worth a purchase when it is available in stores (and yes - my copy is apparently prepping for dispach at play.com).
