Howdy.
Just wanted to post to explain that Waxploitation does vinyl because we are primarily on the hip hop side of things, where it's still a viable format...mostly for fun. A 7" is just one of those things that some people like to collect, and we can do some great things with artwork since it's bigger than a CD.
But we didn't release a Doom 3 7" thinking people were going to run out and buy a turntable. :}
It was keeping with our tradition of putting Vrenna related things on vinyl whenever possible, like Enter The Matrix and Xiaolin Showdown...just to do something different.
This was not really a bunch of people looking for 'new merchandise' objects/ideas. It's a core Waxploitation thing that we figured we'd do since we are a record label. :}

Lo Fi??? On a good turntable (Minimum Music hall MMF-7 $1000) you will hear more detail and pleasant sound than you will hear on a CD.

i couldnt agree more..its really a sub-culture thing.
Most indie rock bands, especially emo, post rock and hard-core release at least one album to vinyl exclusivley...it gives it a real warm low-fi sound that alot of ppl really like...
looking forward to checking this one out

There used to be a way to purchase the CD at http://www.bpmusic.com/ but it seems no longer possible, but i did happen to purchase the Doom CD (geek, i know!). I could rip it and share it on the Soulseek P2P network as well as some of the DirectConnect hubs i frequent.

Bitch Bitch Bitch. Thats mostly what goes on here. Those of us that know... Know vinyl is superior to CD's in many ways. Vinyl is making a bit of a resurgence. People are tired of edgy solid scrape sound of CD's. People are listening to less music because of it. Those of that were raised on records should break out those old albums and see what good sound used to be like. Those of you who say "who has a record player anymore" dont know what you are missing.
On the other hand I won't be buying a 7" record. If they came out with a full album on 180G vinyl pressed from an analog master tape. I would buy it.

I still have a record player, and a few thousand dollars worth of vinyl.
Most of it is from the past 2 years as well.
Hardcore thrives on vinyl, many releases are vinyl only. And with much of it being limited to 500 total, 50-100 on a certain color, it goes for $20-$120 on ebay quite often.
A nice investment. Buy today for $4, sell tomorrow for $40.

No thanks - I already have Lateralus on CD, so I figure I'm pretty well covered in that department.
And besides, what the heck is anyone supposed to play it on? I guess it'd make a nice coaster for really big drinks like those Big Gulps you get at the 7-11...

Agreed! id, Epic, Blizzard (even though I dont care for them unless they announce a Diablo 3) are really the only remaining companies I see fully committed still the PC as its first development plans. And do not forget where they started.
Of course Blizzard developing a console only game (SC Ghost) gets me worried about the future (if any) of a possible Diablo 3.

This sort of thing is novelty, but useless. Who still has a record player these days? Yeah a few people do, but for the most part, these Doom 3 records will get played once at the very most, and put back in the box for safe-keeping... ya know, cause it'll be worth thousands of dollars some day and stuff.
