DOOM 3 Music & SDK Plans

Tweaker's space at Myspace.com (Tweaker is Chris Vrenna's band/nickname) now offers the DOOM 3 theme music (thanks ASLayerAODsk). In other DOOM 3-related news, Shacknews confirms that, as is usually the case with id's games, that an SDK for mod authors will follow shortly after the game's release, though map designers will be able to get started right away since the level editor is included in the game.

ust tossing out more ideas, I'd love to hear some Tapeworm... anyone have news on that? last I heard was from like '00 or '01.

Per Reznor, tapeworm is dead. Too many record labels and suits that had to clear it...

HEll yes. I'm a huge Tool fan, as well, religiously. I dunno if it's a remix of the song, or if it's a new performance all together, definitely elements of "thrid eye", anyone could tell you that. LOVE the sound, though.

And I agree that Vrenna sounds anything like Tool, which clues you in that this IS more tool than tweak
Can't wait to actually play through the game to get more music.

Just tossing out more ideas, I'd love to hear some Tapeworm... anyone have news on that? last I heard was from like '00 or '01.

Hmm..it doesn't look like the Doom 3 theme is on the site anymore. Anyone have another link to it?

UPDATE: Found a link to the song. http://www.doomed3.com/download.php?view.22

128. It's TOOL ReMixed Jul 23, 2004, 00:22 Count Chocula

Ok, I'll see if I can put this to rest:

1. Chris Vrenna's band "Tweaker" sounds absolutely nothing like Tool. I'd describe his stuff as atmospheric, industrial pop/rock... not one track has ever sounded like a Tool song. You can download a few tracks at Tweaker.net and see for yourself.

2. I'm a big Tool fan. The Doom 3 theme is DEFNINITELY Tool, remixed/reworked by Vrenna (who has remixed tracks by A Perfect Circle in the past). It's a reworked version of the songs Lateralus and Third Eye. There are actually very short and somewhat distorted VOCAL samples (definitely MJK from Tool) which begin at 1:08 in the Doom3 theme. In fact, between 1:28 and 1:34 you can hear MJK's signature whiney growl (somewhat chopped up). A dead giveaway for any Tool fan. That's my opinion... believe it or don't. But I will eat my own head if that isn't Tool.
3. A Perfect Circle and Tool are not the same band, by the way. Musically (not vocally) they sound nothing alike... it's the vocals that are similar due to Maynard's presence in the band. No other members of Tool have ever played with APC, and vice versa.

Hmmm...the guy who said the doom3 editor is just a speeded up Qradiant...where do you get your info? Or was it (partially) included in that alpha leak? I haven't heard much about the level editor, so I'm curious where you get your info from.

As for making levels: if you've never done it before (making levels or any other 3d work), it's hard. Screw the guys who say 'making 'em is easy, making good ones is hard'; somewhere they have a point, but the fact is that starting out in anything 3d (modeling or level builing) is fucking hard, unenjoyable and frustrating. When you know about vertexes, edges, polygons, turning edges, splitting edges and polycount it becomes interesting, and then it takes a while before it actually becomes enjoyable. And after that it takes a while before you can actually make something that is worthwhile/good. Then it becomes great fun
So, to recap: it's one of those things which take a long while to get into, but once you're there, the rewards are great (just make sure that when you reach a point somewhere in that neighbourhood that you use a spam-mail account in your readme's :)).

Also, I'm quite convinced listening to the Doom 3 Theme that Tool themselves were involved in it. Despite the music sounding like them, I swear that's Maynard's voice whispering in there. There's something id and the crew is just not telling us.

Ok.. In my opinion, the new Doom 3 them sound a little too much like Tool. I created this MP3 of parts of both songs to compare. What do you all think now you can hear both next to each other?

Without someone teaching you the software its difficult to learn. Once you know the software it is easy to make a level, but very hard to make a GOOD level.

Number one it was sarcasm hence the smiley face.

You are one of those imbeciles that pisses people off and follows it up with "I was just kidding", arent you? Grow up, mean what you say, say what you mean. When I say you are an imbecile, I mean it.

Number 2 how sweet of you! You suck the jizz from tools sac, but you steal from other bands.

I smell hypocrite, or is it shit? Well whatever they smell the same. Find me someone that has never downloaded music or anything else for that matter. Hell I know a lawyer that downloads games and music to try them out. Did you download that Doom 3 vid? I bet you did. Guess what you downloaded copywrited info. No reason for TechTV to do anything about it though cus it's worth more as free advertising. Even David Foster has recognised that people are going to download music, only way to combat it is to make better products. You do know who that is right, or are you to young to know?

aah tool..the band with maybe one good album and three good tracks; A side project with one good song, and 'back in the day' hehe they had one amazing video.
I have to agree that tweaker sounds a whole buncha helluva lot like them.
Is that actually a really big deal? Time will tell.
I for one cant believe that the legendary iD would release a game that; doesnt look amazing, doesnt run roadrunner fast (beep beep) and features crappy music/sound.
This game is absolutely certain to raise the bar in the graphics department. Benchmarks using its tech are and will become the standard (or at least one of them).
As far as the sound fx/muzak goes iD's track record IMO isnt too bad...just never up to the graphics though. Heres hoping they can pull it off this go.

There is always 1 idiot...oh wait this is Blues News, there is a few hundred. IRC and Kazaa? Ouch, sorry but I have far better contacts and methods than those lame services. Regardless, I own every Tool album, so your arguement is moot.

Some people have said that music in the game doesn't fit because the game will just have ambient sounds and noise for the fear factor.

Didn't they get those sounds from Nocturne? Or were they around before the game?

Some people have said that music in the game doesn't fit because the game will just have ambient sounds and noise for the fear factor. Well, the thing is, that music, if done right, could fit right in. I mean, this game involves hell, right? What would be more hellish than walking down a corridor, and hearing a music in the distance, over the compound's sound system. It seems that hell's minions have--no, no! It' can't be! You draw nearer to a speaker and you hear it--Reba Mcintire. The horror!!! You pull down the console and type "suicide", because it was just too helish, and you can't take it any more.

Many musicians lift riffs. Cripes, the Stones made a career of it. So did John Mellencamp.

From what Ive read and heard from musicians, once they release a song it is free game (as long as certain criteria is met), it's just good etiquette to get their permission first, but they don't have to. Basically writing credit has to be given to the original writer(s) and royalties payed.

I dont know specifics about notes and what-not. But an example would be the Stones, one of their songs had a riff that sounded very similar to a song by KD Lang, they didnt realize this before they wrote and recorded it...but they found out before the album was released (luckilly) and they gave her credit on the album without her ever even being involved.

The problem occurs once the song goes public and the proper credits arent given. Whether it was intentional or not regarding this track isnt really relevant.
