9 out of 10 people who say a game is 'unplayably laggy' joined the wrong server.

7: 6 player LAN = unF
9: The game isn't supposed to be about amazing AI, it's supposed to be just mindless fun. You said it yourself, you were expecting a horror game, of which it was never really meant to be.
Personally, I'm replaying it through Nightmare, something I can't say for any game in the last 5 years, quite literally. I very, very, rarely replay games.

Did we play the same game?
To me, it was a tech demo made by people that do not know gaming. They designed nice monsters and the stake gun is lots of fun. The level design and monster set up was terrible. So boring.
I expected a horror game based on the demo with the stake gun and zombies. Turns out the game kind of bounces from one genre to the next. Horror, sci fi, bad guy. The music was atrocious. Really, really, really bad.
Basically their idea of monter attacks is to open a door and let a stream of monsters out. So if you stand by the door, you can simply pick them off one by one as they come out. Or the hallway, or the transporter or whereever it is they all spawn from.
The game was so boring and uninspiring. Technically nice, great demo of the new physics available in the new games, nice looking enemies. The bosses are good from a standpoint of how they look and the environment they are in. The big bosses that stamp the ground and cause stuff to fly around are memorable.
I haven't thought about it since I finished it.

I'm not usually a big fan of FPS fragfests, being more inclined to Deus Ex (I, not II) or Thief style gaming. But Painkiller really is a lot of fun. If you don't have it, pick it up. It's old-school gaming done perfectly, with beautiful graphics and great "feel". It's mindless, but it's the most fun I've had in a computer game in some time.

The patches are cumulative, so in reality, there's only 10MB worth of "new" stuff, plus whatever they replaced in 1.3 that was also replaced in 1.2.

I had been reading things saying this game was good so I downloaded the demo and almost gave up on it without pushing through the first level. And my god, what a game, level 2 was really nice, but seeing the boss and the way the enviroment interacted on the 3rd level in the demo was amazing. The extra level they put out, city on the water, or something like that, was amazing as well. The true test of FPS, imo, is how well the bosses stack up.
If you haven't tried this game, and don't mind extreme gore, give the demo a shot, I recommend skipping the first lvl. This comment was edited on Jul 7, 13:12. |

Multiplayer? No idea but I'll work on getting a dedicated server up so we can all try it out
It'd be so much nicer if the dedicated server pieces were included with the original game.

Personally, I thought it was rubbish - but then Quake-style fragplay doesn't do much for me. But it's your kind of thing, you'll probably like it.
