Lies! BLASPHEMY!
There are no such thing as "steroids!" Athletes know better and follow a higher moral standard; they only use...er..."performance enhancers" or "nutritional supplements."
I love that stuff, though. It is just like how some items are labeled as being "completely organic." Technically, everything that we do make/eat/use/whatever uses items from the Earth...

Drivers are considered the best athletes in the world. The stamina and focus required for what they do is insane.
As for athletes cheating, there was a study conducted not long ago (trying to find it) where they surveyed 1000 of the world's top athletes and asked them if they knew that by gene doping and/or doing roids that they would be the best athlete in the world for 5 years straight that no one could touch - but would die 5 years after that peak - would they dope to achieve that and over 80% said yes.
I'm definitely of the opinion that most athletes from every country cheat to one degree or another. When you're talking about millions in endorsements and being adored by many for being "the best" - and given their natural proclivity to win (regardless of cost) - and know full well that most of your competition is probably doing it, you're going to risk doing it as well.

No one has ever proven anything any sort of drug claims against Armstrong. I bet he has taken Tylenol before, and that is a drug!
We all know Tylenol is a gateway drug, so thus it is safe to conclude he takes all kinds of performance enhancing drugs!
Come on people, logic here.
Besides, I thought he had a brain tumor in his testicles? So therefore any drug he takes to make up for that is fair, I mean…a BRAIN TUMOR IN YOUR TESTICLES….that’s gotta hurt!

I can't call the driver an athlete In so far as it it is possible to measure, formula one drivers are high up on the fittest sportsmen list. But I see what you mean. There are very few sports (if any) that are not technologically driven now at the highest level- snooker is the only one that springs to mind, what with Stephen Hendry being 7 times world champion with a £7.99 cue he was given for his 13th birthday. Apart from anything else, it's how Nike et al make a sizeable chunk of their money - Tiger uses their clubs, but so do thousands of other golfers all buying them at $1299 a go.

| No one has ever proven anything any sort of drug claims against Armstrong. Why do people seem to find it so hard that he is good at what he does, and has a good team behind him without using drugs? |

Motor"Sports" are almost all about the Tech. Sure the driver has to have the skill to use that tech properly but, personally, I can't call the driver an athlete. No more then I could call a Champion Billards or Poker player a athlete. They're good at what they do, but it's not athletics.
Motorsports are Tech&Skill, regular, shall we say "Olympic" sports? (Perhaps not, that's starting to get a little weird...) ...are about Athletism & Skill. To me, the unfair addition of Tech to some competitors and not others seems wrong.
But like I said, what the hell do I know?
I have neither Athletism, Skill or Tech. |

the amount of R&D being spent behind one man and thats different from, say, NASCAR, Indy Racers etc? Have you guys seen the tech thats behind organized motorsports lately? These arent greasemonkeys from the local gas station running these things. It seems hi-tech is being used in just about every major competitive sport now and I'm not sure what the problem with applying it to something like cycling.
BTW, I missed the part where it said he's whacking steroids. Can someone point that out?

Shut up, Tim. It has zero to do with nationalism and everything to do with gene doping and anabolic stacks. Seeing as you're apparently the last person on earth to hear the news...athletes cheat.

Many sports have big differences in equipment between players. Golf is probably the most comparable. Think about the different technologies and equipment they use. Think about the Nike department behind Tiger Woods.

the amount of R&D being spent behind one man yeah, but it'll benefit everyone in the sport. the research is for cycling, not just Lance... but they'll use his name and image to promote the new experimental stuff they develop, because people will focus on and recognize a winner... i do agree with your comment that it would be cool if they all had to race using the same equipment, but that would be a bit much and everyone would bitch about having to conform and not being able to try new things... so instead they develop guidlines and specs that need to be met.
remember, *somebody* has to be at the top, and Lance started off at the bottom just like everyone else... |

It's not so much the parts cost as it is this line:
"his equipment sponsors have joined forces in an unprecedented, cost-be-damned collaboration known as F-One."
To me, it sounds like the amount of R&D being spent behind one man that maybe it should be more of a concern then steroids....
Then again... what the hell do I know? |

| the amount of money listed on that page is pretty small... just $5,500 when you add it up (admittedly, there is no price tag on 2 of the items - the jersey and the wheels) - but $5,500 is nothing really. how much money have you put into your PC, wiwi jumbo?? i figure that if you are a pro cyclist and you can't afford that much - you better go save up for a while then try again. hell, i have about $900 invested in my bike, and i've never raced, it's just for fun... and i'm broke!! |
