I think Fileplanet has gotten much better with the new download manager...the previous one was kind of buggy, sometimes getting down to 0 then starting over from the end of the line again. Usually, though, if I need a file that isn't 'exclusive', then I go to FileFront or Worthplaying. They seem to be the fastest and most available all the time...

As for GC, I never played the first one, but I was in the the Ground Control 2 beta. I really didn't care for it much, just didn't have anything new to distinguish itself from the horde of other RTS's out there. Now, if they put Massive Assualt up for download, I'd get it in a heartbeat...that turn-based game rocks!

I just installed this, and played for 2 hours straight. It's still so addicting.

Though when you install it, they'll try to install the Groundcontrol II MP demo, but you can just cancel that. Also had a few issues with the voice-overs in mission brifiesing but since they're both in text and voice it isn't much of an issue

I love Fileplanet - no waits and fast downloads.

I have no idea what your problems are with 3DGamers - the few times that I have used the site, I have always managed to get one of the links to work.

Shrugging,
Ray

I was merely providing a [lousy I'll admit] comparison of two kind of file mirrors. It's up to you to choose wich one you prefer.

I'm not trying to say that fileplanet is better then any other file mirrors, but people need to stop bitching everytime fileplanet gets something. I'm guessing (and yes, this is only a wild guess) that FP/GSI had to "convince" whoever publish GC[2] to release the game for free and since they did that part of the job, they deserve getting the exclusive.

I'm so happy they realsed this for free. I got the game when it first was released but my disc got lost, or stolen. And I couldn't even find this game in any value game bins around town.

And, I've started downloading after 10:00pm pst and it was a 10 minute waiting time, not too bad for a free game, and it's pretty painless to get to if you're already a Gamespy user anyways.

I realize it's a promotion thing, but still nice of them to do.

Would be nice if they also had the expansion available for download.. but I believe a different developer made it.

I'll second that. As I recall it was some limited distribution, like if you bought Ground Control from the Sierra Store you got a copy of the expansion for free. Never remember seeing it in stores. Still have my retail copy of GC1, I'll have to fire it up again, never did finish it the first time.

quazz, that's what BitTorrent is for. The more popular a file is, the faster the download is.

Wow, If only I could return the copy I bought a couple of years back to the store and could now get the game for free

Anyway, this is a cool deal. Make sure not to pass it up !

I should've specified that I have problem with 3DGamers only when (remotly) popular file get released. Fileplanet (and a lot a site that use a queue'ing system) keep working but with a long wait while site without such a system (3DGamers being one of the first due to it's popularity) choke under the pression and become unusable.

Yep, I have no problem with 3DGamers either. Using BitTorrent was a great idea for them. I know smaller sites did it before they did, but 3DGamers is popular enough to get a critical mass for the fastest downloads.

Also, my problem with FilePlanet is less about how the site works, and more about the company GameSpy.

quazz is right, 3dgamers has gone down the toilet. The bit torrent works sometimes but any other download is a big pain in the butt to get there. They seem to be kinda desperate for an answer to bandwidth issues...first the Tucati garbage now BT (also garbage IMO...I am sure I'll get flamed for that one). Maybe if they put another kagillion advertisments then they can get it squared away, who knows.

I get some amazing download speeds from FilePlanet, I have no idea why. FilePlanet kicks 3dLamers in the gonads (but then which gaming site doesn't).

Oh and GC was a fun game for sure, and free is certainly a good price.

What are these folks complaining about?

I don't have to comeback to my computer two hours later to download from fileplanet either. As long as you use their download manager.

Really, the only thing anyone could have against fileplanet is when they have exclusive game demo. But it's not the case for this file.

Also no problems with 3D Gamers. On the off chance I can't find an open server with a file i need, yippy skippy dude that's why I have Flashget. I don't have to come back to my computer in two hours to start a download. Fire and forget.
