Painkiller Expansion Planned

DreamCatcher Games announces plans for Battle out of Hell, an expansion for People Can Fly's Painkiller. Here's word on the shooter add-on, expected in winter 2004:
Toronto, June 23, 2004 - DreamCatcher Games today announced that it will publish the Painkiller Expansion Pack: Battle out of Hell for its award-winning Windows® FPS. Releasing well in time for the holidays, the Expansion Pack will offer multiple features to extend enjoyment of this spectacular shooter.

Picking up right where the game’s story left off, Battle out of Hell includes an additional single-player chapter with 10 levels, as well as new multiplayer modes, maps and models. It will also offer an amplified arsenal of un-deadly weapons, bigger and badder bosses and the map editor Software Development Kit.

A shooter in its purest form, Painkiller boasts truly stunning graphics and some of the most intimidating level bosses ever seen. The game utilizes the impressive Havok 2.0 physics engine, achieving new heights of physics-based gameplay, while the proprietary 3D "PAIN engine” is capable of pumping an unbelievably high polygon count while adding increased texture quality and the latest lighting and shadowing techniques.

Developed by People Can Fly, Painkiller is rated ‘M’ for Mature. Download the demo at www.PainkillerGame.com. An Xbox® version of this title is planned for early 2005.

I thought Meatloaf should have done the theme for the original... considering it was close enough to paradise by a dashboard light which caused the accident:P

flash is overrated, painkiller was cool game, nothing big and nothing small, funny how people say it could be "good console game" but cry it being sihtty pc game...

PC games can only be unique and uber awesome, while any crapware is good as long as it's on console, right? Probably that's why consoles sell so good!

Flash is a pretty nifty application, actually.

A damn good way to get some high quality multimedia on a site when done correctly.

I guess I always prefer people to offer HTML (light versions) for those that don't like Flash, but give me a fucking break with the crybaby stuff.

I've never seen a site that actually forbids you to enter unless you have crapromedia flash, but apparently that's the case with www.PainkillerGame.com. I've seen those that have a flash and no flash button of course.

Hey, "People Can Fly" , are you trying to sell a fucking game or Macromedia?

Thank god youre not the only one who didnt like it. Unbelieveable so many people liked it. It would be a good (typical) game for consoles, though.

I have given up on waiting for BIS to come back to their senses and do a real ArmA 2 successor.

"They never really intended for the game to be "mod friendly".

yeah, that makes sense. As we all know, mods don't really do anything for sales, or really extend the life of the game.

Now if you'll excuse me, I'm gonna play some counterstrike and possibly some AHL and DOD later on.

...the game was ok while it lasted, but I do not know if I would be ready for more just yet. Will there really be anything new or will it just be more of the same? What is left after all the other over-the-top parts from the first game?

Oh well...demo, please.

1st boss:
basically you have to come back for him. get a few double or quad damage cards, plus multi use tarot cards and then when u fight him, get under his legs, and pummle him.

Its been a while since i played, but thats basically it i think

How was this game? I played the demo and enjoyed it, but I ended up picking up Far Cry instead (which was cool enough I guess). Should I get this one too?

absolutely

Also... I think these moronic companies who delay their SDK's have to be on crack. HL2 is going to be so damn mod friendly, that the competition should be killing themselves to get SDKs out ahead of it. That's what I think anyway.

They never really intended for the game to be "mod friendly". It wasn't until after it shipped that the demand started getting loud (or so I'm told). Most (or all) of the levels were all made in 3DMax so its not like they had proprietary tools to give away. If they can strike a deal with the 3Dmax people they could do something similar to what was done with Q3 and Gmax.

He cut the possum's face off then cut around the eye socket. In the center of the belt buckle, where the possum's eye would be, he has placed a small piece of wood from his old '52 Ford's home made railroad tie bumper. Damn, he misses that truck.

Still gets my vote for most emjoyable single player game this year.

I agree that the MP could've been thought out better though.

Am I the only one that thinks this is in really poor taste? The MP out of the box now is so horrid, I've had more fun with "Hello World" programs. It feels like Dreamcather is asking people to pay for things that should have been in the MP in the first place.

Who is left to kill at the end of Painkiller?

well if it truly takes off right from the end of the 1st one, then its gonna be pretty tough, as (spoiler)

he surrounded by a good 100+ demons.

i'll probably get it i loved the last level (apart from the boss kiling bit), and overall its fun in blocks of an hour or so.
