that is exactly it, for me too. I want a game that surprises me again. nothing bad about a ww2 game, but you start it and oyu already now where it will go from there. this time maybe with better AI and better AI teamwork, better graphics, more realism.. whatever, but in the end there's no surprise waiting for you. that's my whole problem with that kind of games.
I guess it all depends on the reason people play games, which certainly differ a lot. some play mainly for the combat, some for exploring a world of imagination, some for the gore, etc...

I don`t hate ww2 games themselves, just cannot relate to the time period. And the style is not interesting either. Not to say many don`t like them, alot seem to. A Vietnam game I can relate to cause I was around watching the news at the time. lol With a game like Battlefield 2 coming tho, I can care less how many ww2 games come. Bring em on. It is just nice that even 1 decent modern mil combat experience is making its way to us. If I was to even consider 1 ww2 game, it would have to be maybe Brothers In Arms tho.
And I don`t think it would be right to say its cool to not dig ww2 games. Gamers who get glutted with them tend to get a bit bored and would like something new maybe? Ya can`t bash em for that.

What I'm clamouring for is an Iraq war game.

It could be called 'Blue on Blue' and be a bit like Postal2 where you basically have to kill as many of your own / allied troops as possible.

Also, would the end boss be just hiding down a hole waiting to have his teeth checked with a lolly stick?

It's cool to hate WWII games now... didn't you know? There's a reason there's been made so many movies and documentaries about WWII. There are lots of stories to tell. A good game is a good game. If this turns out to be a good game, I won't skip it just because it's cool to hate WWII games. If it turns out to be a bad game, I won't skip it just because it's cool to hate WWII games. I'll skip it because it's bad.

Right. Because there aren't any horror/sci-fi/post-apocalyptic games out there. Specifically, we're in desperate need of games with a fantasy or near-modern theme involving horrific experiments gone wrong that bring about an apocalypse. I often wonder why no one's come up with something like that before.

LoL man, you obviously havent played Fallout, or Fallout 2. Go Play them NOW. I MEAN NOW!
Fallout 2. Best rpg ever. No competition. Absolutely none whatsoever.
As for WW2 Games. They should be banned by law. Im sick of em. Vietnam games are ok, theyre still fresh and they have great 60's music, but they are bound to get old pretty soon too.

"I suppose that means it'll use that awesome DX:IW engine"

It's Pyro, not Ion Storm, who are the devs so in all likelyhood it will be their own engine (or unreal).

Lot's of moaning going on here. Think everyone needs to chill.

Since it's being multi-ported from the ground up and has "Eidos" on it, I suppose that means it'll use that awesome DX:IW engine. Can't fucking wait.

Too many WW2 games. Booooring. Why don't people try out some other genres... fantasy, horror, sci-fi, post-apocalyptic, even modern.. all are more interesting than WW2. That's not to say there couldn't be a good WW2 game, but under the mass of crappy titles, how would you know?

Crap. Does anyone else find it funny that they would take a known isometric puzzle/squad-based game franchise and turn it into yet another MOHAA/Call of Duty ripoff that's for the console only? I call it 'console only' because as far as I'm concerned, the PC version is probably just a horrible port to keep the less-than-hardcore fans of the game quiet before the game's release.

I am down for anything that is post-apocalyptic. I loved FoT and was hoping somebody would mod Silent Storm to a Fallout theme.

Hell even a commandos type game would be awesome with a wastelands environment.

The problem is the WW2 shooter just sells so well. Even crap like Call Of Doodee sold loads.

I keep praying that Bioware will make a post-nuclear war/post-apocalyptic RPG.

No kidding. 'Wasteland' and 'Fallout' were the two greatest PC games ever programmed.

When will game makers begin to create their own IP again instead of making WW2 games?

As soon as people stop buying them. You'd think that most people would be sick of the WWII/Nam theme by now.

Bring on the post-apocalyptic themes!

Trog, I'm with you. All these WWII games should have a permanent section like "Hardware Reviews" or "Out of the Blue".

Would be nice if we could get some imagination back in our games.

Setting something in WW2 doesn't mean they aren't making their own IP. The Commandos games were cool, and had interesting and recognizable characters.
