Help Wanted - Quake IV

Rick Johnson's .plan has a help wanted for Quake IV:

Raven Software is looking for a Technical Artist for the Quake 4 PC title. We prefer a person with a strong understanding of the technical side of creating art assets, such as creating textures and world models, generating shaders, and proficient in scripting. We also prefer a candidate with strong drawing and painting skills and an ability to model hi and lo-poly models in Maya and/or Lightwave. Programming experience is a plus. A background with Quake 3 shaders, a familiarity with the Quake 3 Editor, and experience in animation and effects are also a definite plus, but not required.

A brand new setting or the same (tired) setting from Quake 2? Keep on going goth?

I'm pretty sure they said it was a "Quake2 sequel" set in the "Strogg" setting etc.

No, they explicitly say that Quake 3 skills are not a requirement (although they are "a definite plus").

I don't give a shite about vehicles, story, hooks etc. If they can make a game that was as fun as the original Quake2 was online, they'll get my money. I would like to see the less refined railgun, and the grappling hook make a come back.

Threewave CTF in 2005!

He cut the possum's face off then cut around the eye socket. In the center of the belt buckle, where the possum's eye would be, he has placed a small piece of wood from his old '52 Ford's home made railroad tie bumper. Damn, he misses that truck.

You know, enemy types?

Weapon types?

Small levels or big levels?

A brand new setting or the same (tired) setting from Quake 2? Keep on going goth?

Vehicles?

Considering Doom 3 will already have the dark, scary graphis part down, what will be the hook for Quake IV?

What type of multiplayer?

Story?

So on and so forth...

Off to visit KoL,
Ray

I don't think putting out feelers for people with Doom 3 engine experience is going to produce many results at this point in time...

Odd.. a lot of Quake 3 know how required.. thought this game as based on the new Doom engine?

Also yea, lemme tell ya, as someone who has been making FPS maps since Doom, things are increadibly more complex now adays... to the point where as one person, I don't even want to think of the ammount of polygons I'd have to work with to make some of the levels I see in Doom3 screenshots. Course, these guys don't have one person doing all the lvls, there are a group of people, each working on different parts of each lvl.

Likewise, Quake IV certainly would not ship before Doom 3 has...

Wondering what route they will take the game,
Ray

Quan, don't be so asinine.

The truth is, with Doom3 generation titles, the toughest part is creating art assets. The level [and source quality] of content these games require is staggering, and many times more than older games.

Which is good news for artists/animators, as it means they will continue to be in high demand.

What they are saying is:

" We have this cool state of the art Doom 3 engine but have no idea how to use it ...... HELP ! "
