I liked almost everything I saw in those Tribes:Vengeance videos except for the colored contrails from the jetpack exhaust. I suppose it helps to pick out enemies from the terrain... but I dunno. It just looks strange to me.
To hell with Doom3 and Half-Life2, I'm sold on Tribes. If it doesn't turn out to be a patch-fest like Tribes 2, wow! I guess I won't be getting much sleep after this comes out.

I was wondering though, how is the slow-mo effect going to fit into the story? Does it really matter? It looks really friggin cool! I'm more likely to notice awesome little scenes like that in a game, rather than WTF THIS DOESNT FIT IN WITH THE PLOT.
#32: That grappling to vehicles is a really f'in good idea. I hope light armours get flung around if you grapple to a flier. Imagine trying to shake off some light armor bastards by whipping them around? Fliers being pulled downward if a heavy latches onto it, affecting your flight mechanics?

I didn't care for anything Monolith, unless it was another Nolf... and I still want that... but this looks impressive.
And, having dug up that last DNF video.....I believe I've stumbled on it's inspiration!
Couldn't have cared less about Tribes Vengeance until that video... it will need to be good though, cause Onslaught still has be sleepless...
If you checkout gamespy's article on F.E.A.R. it explains the slow-motion to some degree.... you being super soldier, you do everything super-fast, not them doing super slow... I think I have that right:P

Grappling to vehicles... now that might be fun! If it's possible I'd like to see a movie of as many players as possible hanging from a bomber or being drug around by some fast land vehicle. Hell yeah!! Would be freakin' amazing if a squad of heavies could immobilize a vehicle by grappling to it all at once!
Damn. . somebody start working on that mod please?

Tribes looks bitchin'. Almost wish a multiplayer beta would leak (source code not included). Nice introduction to the single-player story as well.

All in all, I'll be buying this one. Tribes 1 is one of my all time favorite games, and while I was one of the unlucky ones who had nonstop issues with Tribes 2 bugs, I can't wait for this one.

The F.E.A.R. movie does look sweet. I like the way it looks when you kick that guy off the balcony. I was wondering though, how is the slow-mo effect going to fit into the story?

Wow, it looks great imo. Especially the wide open city scape, cool slow motion pressure wave destruction of background gun, and the head kick with rag doll physics. Mmmm.

edit doesn't seem to be working.
"I own Tribes 2" as in "I have the CD", not implying that I am any good at it. Just to clarify. I played it for a few weeks before I re-affirmed my belief that multiplayer ain't my cup of tea.

Tribes:Vengance looks to be an improvement in every way possible. I own Tribes 2, and played Tribes 1 briefly, but not enough to be considered among the hardcore fans.
Lets see:
-Singleplayer storyline (and an engaging and innovative one at that) -Much, much cooler art direction -Better graphics (obviously) -A mix of old and new weapons -"Focused" the vehicles in to 4 instead of 6 -Multiplayer seems to be intact with everything the diehards love -Deep character development
sounds good to me. Personally, if game doesn't have singleplayer I more or less ignore it. But with T:V, you can have your cake and eat it too.
BTW: FEAR looks amazing.

As well as ripping UT2004s Capture and Defend mode. LOL The original Tribes had Capture and Hold as a core gameplay mode in 1998. A year prior to the original Unreal Tournament release. Not to mention numerous other games that have used a variant since then and prior to UT2K4. I think someone ripped Shaatan's brain out.

And if you want to argue that the idea of vehicles themselves was ripped from BF1942, then you must agree that BF1942 ripped off their ideas from Operation Flashpoint Er, actually, then I'd argue that Op. Flashpoint ripped their ideas off of Codename Eagle, which was essentially the precursor to BF1942 (it was also by Digital Illusions).
Although, IIRC, the first FPS to feature usable vehicles was Tribes, wasn't it? Full circle.

It is as bad as Joint Ops ripping BFs vehicles. I wasn't aware there were Japanese Zeroes, Sherman tanks and jeeps in Joint Ops.
And if you want to argue that the idea of vehicles themselves was ripped from BF1942, then you must agree that BF1942 ripped off their ideas from Operation Flashpoint. Not to mention that the idea of vehicles in games was a no-brainer and was inevitable once technology made it possible.

blatant rip? you're saying that tribes: vengeance incorporates a blatant rip by 'stealing' futuristic sports arenas from UT? in case you are unaware (which you obviously are), there was a mod for tribes 1 (subsequently ported to tribes 2) called team rabbit, in which teams won by scoring points by tossing the flag amongst teammates in slick ways. the arena gametype in tribes vengeance seems to be of this same type, not of some 'stolen' UT gametype.
also, if you want to talk about ripping things from specific games, tribes 1 was the first to incorporate a decent in-game voice macro system (vge), so i guess that every game that's copied that (UT, battlefield, etc.) simply stole it from tribes 1.
oh yea, and capture and defend is an exact rip of t1's CAPTURE AND HOLD. wow, ripping does suck.

Capture and Defend Funny, I thought that's what the original Tribes revolved around, the ones released years ago, not in 2004....maybe I'm thinking of another game.

Looks bad ass. The grappling hook definitely seems like it'll be difficult to master (wonder if you can grapple flying vehicles...). As for making it faster, I doubt it can be faster gameplay than the first game since I think that's about the fastest-paced, most hectic game I've played, but I can see them ramping up the overall speed from the second one.

I know lots of kids that are die-hard tribers. It has such a core fanbase, and I don't think they'll take well to change. That's ok. If they don't like it they will just mod it to make it like Tribes 1, thereby completely destroying a perfectly good game for the people that might enjoy it.

original ripping is good, but blatant rip is another thing altogether. It is as bad as Joint Ops ripping BFs vehicles. As well as ripping UT2004s Capture and Defend mode. Ripping is fine, if done in an original thoughtful manner. But bandwagon jumping blows monkies.
