I think they died out just as NWN came out The only good stuff after that was probably the usermade stuff for NWN, which made up for the crap that was NWN's official campaign.
Or have I forgotten a good crpg which came out in the meantime?

I recently was tricked into downloading DX:IW (under the impression it was a (in)decent porn film). I hated the demo but decided to try the full version to see if the 'plot' would make it all worth while. I should say I went to the effort of downloading and applying the patch ( then re-cracking it ). I played for about 2 hours and decided to delete it from my harddriver. Apart from all the problems already levelled at the original demo and it's consolitist, it sucked and I really liked the original Deux Ex.
So they didn't make the same mistake this time and release the demo first. So I guest this is going to be warezed by a lot of people not willing to splash the cash about.
For the record: 3 of the 4 games ( excluding DX:IW ) I've downloaded, I latered purchased becaues I considered them worth the money. The forth I deleted like DX:IW

Besides Randy Smith leaving the company, The same one who was one designer among many on the prior Thief games? He's noted as a "key" designer of both the original Thief games and was the Project Lead of Thief 3. Also, he is, I believe, the fourth Thief 3 designer to resign during the making of this game. Even with the generic "have other things I want to do, it was great working here!" statements, I can't help but think something not-nice is going down at Ion Storm.
the focus on consoles Not necessarily a bad thing. There are some great games on consoles. I agree. I love consoles, but their focus on consoles make this a console game, and there are several limitations with consoles, and those limitations do not transfer well over to PC.
Only if it is an actual conversion, a console-to-PC port is a no-no.
Invisible War Not a bad game in my opinion, but . . . Honestly, I haven't played the full version and my opinion is based off the wonderful demo (even with the tweaks). I've heard from a few friends, though, that the game is indeed good but with disappointing ending(s).
people's accounts of Harvey Smith's displeasure at E3 (and his recent departure). You mean the guy that (I seem to recall) some here have accused of being at fault for the alleged abomination of Invisible War? Seems like that's a good thing... I remember reading someone's E3 2002 and 2003 experiences with Harvey Smith, saying that in 2002 (which, as we remember, showed all the excellence of Invisible War) Harvey was very excited with the game. Come E3 2003, though, along with the arrival of the terrible HUD, he said Harvey seemed less happy. Course, I'm just taking someone I've never met's word, but looking at how everything has turned out I'm inclined to believe this.

This game is either going to be a good surprise or it is going to suck so much ass it will skip Ebay and go directly to the bargain bin.
I can't see it being sorta fun. We'll either hate it or love it. I guess I kind of like the anticipation and not knowing, so I really don't care if they wait for a demo until after the game is out. Regardless, we're all paying attention.

Well the dev's have at least made me come to the point where I will try the demo, assuming there is one, without predjudice thoughts leaking from my DX:IW experience. On that note I'll take Halsy's 1 millimeter peter up my virgin sphincter before I buy the game if there is no demo.
I might even *gasp* warez the sucker if I get alot of good word of mouth and they don't do a demo within resonable time of the release.
If you don't like that you can cram it up your ass. |

Not me. I've never really regretted ditching the Xbox (didn't even bother selling it). Also didn't much mind when the motor in my PS2 took a shit. It's been sitting in a cabinet for a while. Parts of my PSX that served faithfully since its US release date have been scavanged for a bootleg tattoo rig. The only thing that still sees any use around here is the DC, but that's mostly running old LA games on DCSCUMM, which I enjoy when I'm all pilled up beyond being able to use a keyboard and in the process of passing out.

I sold my XBox as well. A mistake if ever I've made one. Wish I hadn't, simply because Microsoft got smart and bought the rights to produce titles that I really appreciated.
Otherwise I could enjoy these games on a Nintendo... (cue the "All in the Family" theme song)

I guess that's when public opinion will have made it about clear whether this game is too far from Thief or too close to IW or otherwise just sucks/does not suck. 'Cause I ain't gonna be shittin' out cash onto nuthin' by these jokers again just based on the pedigree of the series they're allegedly following.
Maybe I'll track down that guy I gave my Xbox to and make him rent it.
