More on KOTOR II

LucasArts announces the lineup of games they will be showing off at this year's E3 expo, offering the official announcement of Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic II: The Sith Lords, the sequel to the Star Wars RPG they developed along with BioWare. The official Product Page for the game is online, confirming prior reports that the game is being developed by Obsidian Entertainment targeting a February 2005 release. Here's more:

Beginning approximately five years after the events of the first Knights of the Old Republic, The Sith Lords takes players on an entirely new journey as they assume the role of what is believed to be the last Jedi in the galaxy. The game features a cast of memorable returning characters and sinister new villains. Using more than 30 new Force powers, players can turn weak-minded enemies against one another in combat with “Force confusion” or see through doors and view character alignment with “Force sight.” Assigned to protect the Old Republic and the Jedi Order from the terrifying Dark Lords of the Sith, players must explore and battle through seven diverse worlds while being challenged whether to choose the light side of the Force or surrender to the lure of the dark side.

Creston, to quote the announcement:

"The Sith Lords will be officially unveiled at E3 2004 and will be released for the Xbox video game system from Microsoft and for the PC in February 2005."

PC version for me...

Yep, me. I wouldn't call it "THE Best EVAR", but it was definitely one of the best, great roleplaying options, nice character development, GREAT NPCs (damn I wish there was another game where you travel around with a cynical flying skull and a slutty tiefling). My only two big gripes against it were that the ending sucked fucking big time, and that there really was no point to playing anything except a fighter, but this has been the case with D&D related RPGs forever. Fighters always rule.

KotOR 2, YES.
I just wish they'd announce whether or not they'll release a PC version. I'd prefer that over the Xbox version still.

I just wish to add my voice to the chorus of people who think that Planescape:Torment was one of the best CRPGs ever created.

Seems to be common here to make conclusions for the whole game community based on your own opinion.

Quite foolish to think your opinion applies to everybody else isn't it ?

I have no doubts that KOTOR II will be a great sequel, especially based on the previous games from that company and just because somebody doesn't like one or two of their previous titles won't really change it.

Planescape Torment is one of best RPG's ever, It had one of best stories for an RPG as well. IMHO it is even better than Baldurs Gate.

Planescape (not Planetscape) is a "-"?!?

What other game has given you the option to spontaneously rip out your own eyeball and jam one that had been sitting in a jar of brine for years in the socket, just because someone told you it used to belong to an old incarnation of yourself?

Fallout +
Icewind Dale -
Baulder's Gate +
Dark Alliance +
Planetscape -

So we add up the score and see they are 3 for 5 on games and that's a 60/40 ration... add that up with the high expectations we have for KOTOR and it looks like the hype will destory the chance of people's expecations for a good sequel...

Wouldn't it be ironic that the original would be considered an amazing classic and yet the sequal to the series would be total crap, wonder if I've seen that happen At LucasArts before...

They should just get it over with and rename KOTOR II: Sith Lords to KOTOR II: Attack of the phantom sequel. Or maybe the game will be just as good if not better then the original but I think that's putting too much hope in a product that bares George Lucas's name.

Best sith lord line ever...

Deathstar Commander: I assure you, Lord Vader, my men are working as fast as they can.

Vader: Perhaps I can find new ways to motivate them.

This is one of those things that have been covered several times man. Alot of the people at Obsidian have worked on PS: Torment, Fallout, and other RPG games like that(Lead designers, producers, main writters, etc). Which ofcourse makes them ex-BIS(Black Isle Studio) employees as well. They couldn't have picked a better choice other then Troika, but they are busy doing another game right now.

edit: pulled off of Lucas Arts website;
Developed by Obsidian Entertainment, the development house founded by members of the Fallout, Icewind Dale, Baldur's Gate, Dark Alliance, and Planescape: Torment teams

What's Obsidian's track record? BioWare is an amazing company that excels at RPG style games but I am unsure of Obsidian, anyone havce any comments and the games they have released?

"Cameo appearances from memorable characters of the first game enhance the continuity and story flow through this unique time period."

All I see is that damn little droid, the most annoying of all the characters, atleast Juhani had lightsaber, the droid was just something you used in the early part of the game because you had to.
