Explain to me exactly what you find unbalanced about Rev.
I am the producer of RevMod2, and I stand behind my mod. It's made in the tradition of the best CTF mods like LM-CTF for Quake 2, and balance is actually one of our top priorities.
Not only do I stand behind Rev, it stands on its own. I don't believe you've come to this conclusion with any real play time.

I'm no fan of Fileplanet either, but you don't HAVE to pay to download, so why are you bitching?
Well I think it sucks because these funds and effort could be better put into making FileRush all it could be... that is a really worthy signature

Patch hell is a huge problem with many older games. Sometimes you can find a decent runthrough sometimes not. Q1 for me is the biggie getting it TF and reaper bots to work is a 7-10 hour task now I just unrar a zipped folder glquake doesn't work but what the hell. Also getting game Demos to work is fucking impossible.
The thing with demos is the worst. It's the best way to learn at a really high level and can be a lot of fun to space out to. But getting demo's recorded with diffrent versions of a game to play is F*@$$*@ing painful. Please game companies get your sh!t together on this issue, finally we can get some interest in high level competetive gaming going.

More like criminals, am I right? They are charging consumers for free content. Free patches, free demos, free games, et cetera... And no, that bullshit excuse about "paying for access to fast servers" is just that, bullshit. They are selling free software.

If you haven't tried T2 for a while, or ever, give it a try.
Find a server running RevMod2 and you'll have a lot more fun than on the Base/Classic servers.
For the key, remember that FilePlanet/GS doesn't like non IE browsers, so make sure you're using IE to create a key.

Tribes II is still fun as hell after all this time, and now most people can jack the nice looking graphics up all the way with modern hardware. I'm actually very excited to see how Tribes Vengeance turns out. I will crack up laughing if I end up playing that instead of DOOM3 or HL2 multiplayer. I remembet how Tribes 1 stole a lot of players away from the "top games", and became a classic of it's own. I've still had no single clan match teamplay experience better than Tribes. Nothing has been as fun.
I will also be amazed if they can take the Unreal engine and make a game out of it that is actually fun. All that nice work on the engine, and I have yet to play something that didn't feel like a half effort, or dumbed down for the masses. UT2003/2004 blow IMO.

Hey all, long-time reader, seldom poster, all that. I just wanted to comment on the beta/meta tests from Tribes 2...
Part of the problem with the testing for T2 was the nature of the tests itself. They went from large-scale stress testing down to 50 members as the game neared gold status, and I remember as I moved into the meta testing stage that all of the serious bugs disappeared with the meta patches.
Looking back on it now and the problems with the retail launch, it's fairly obvious that they simply removed the ability for us to reproduce those high-load bugs (by reducing the testing base) instead of really fixing them all. Whether that was the producer leaning on them to push the game out or what I can't say.
It was too bad... The game really kicked ass with all the community features working and nothing but |5150|, [TKB], the scripters and the dev team in all of the games. Looking forward to trying it out again with a small crowd and the patches already applied to it.

Tribes was one of the best online games ever, I hope this brings some new life into an old game, I might go back and play this again for a while see how it pans out. I got Tribes 2 back in the day as well but I didn't really care for it, the gameplay was much slower paced... Give "classic" a try. Its an official playtype implimented in the later patching of tribes2. Most T2 Servers run it... Alot of fun, made the physics and speed more Tribes 1-ish. There's even alot of recreated tribes1 maps.

1st of all Moo!
FP may have paid for or did a trade out for the Tribes games but IMO it is really not my concern for their buisness pratice. If they were releasing T1 & T2 as a gift for the gaming communities then why force people to use only 1 or 2 sources. If it is, as I think it is, a way of building hype for the next tribes then again by limiting the sources only serves to limit your exposure.
again, these are just my opinions.

The reference isn't about acting childish (then again, thats an accurate description now that I think about it), its a reference to "blue-eyed hitler youth" (re; the perfect race, etc) which is a phrase thats quite common though I havent a clue where it originated from. I used it to needle TW about their reputation for being a group of whining, badgering our-opinion-is-the-important-one-and-you-ruined-our-game-how-dare-you etc etc ad-naseum. Further, I beleive their influence/pressure had a direct impact on the closing of Dynamix. Rather than accept the gameplay at face value in its new direction they went on a public campaign to discredit Dynamix and the game which had repercussions all the way to the retail shelves. Even if you don't buy that theory the fact that they thought a group of people with families to support lost their jobs was high comedy is enough to warrant the above label (IMHO of course). Is every person who visits the site or posts to their forums deserving of scorn? Of course not, be sensible. Those guilty of acting like jackholes know who they are.
You make some good points here. Although I generally think that the reasons behind Dynamix's closing were pretty legitemate, regardless of Twar's contribution to the fact. I think it's a shame that the studio had to close, and as you said, that people who had families to feed lost their jobs over the game, but gameplay WAS NOT the reason why the community complained extensively. Everyone eventually concluded that opinions were opinions and that, regardless of gameplay, the little things that the T2 dev team should have gotten right never happened. Even before the release, when we were told that the beta test would include nine times (if memory serves) the number of foreign players as US players. One of my current roommates beta tested Tribes 1, as well as many other games, but this was not reason enough for him to be included on the beta test. Even during the second beta, most of the people included were a "who's who" list of tribes community members, many of whom are actually intelligent, coherent human beings, but quite a few of whom were (and are) not.
Then, after the release, when those of us who optimistically hoped that our computers wouldn't have to be upgraded to play T2 found out that we were horribly mistaken (as we should have been) and T2 wouldn't even come close to running on any of our machines (I personally had about three seconds per frame), no matter how low the detail level.
Later, after one of the patches, I distinctly recall a thread made by T2 player complaining about issues that had cropped up with the new patch. A 5150 member posted a response to the original thread, stating what the problem was and how it could be fixed, in code. A dev team member (I don't remember who), then responded saying that they were "unable to reproduce the bug" in their magical test machines, which would also run T2 at 40+ FPS on a 400 MHz P2 using a Voodoo3 video card, and thus they were ignoring the bug report until they could reproduce it.
That is the kind of crap that many of the community members hated about T2. A dev team (and production studio) who tried to tell its fans what their problems were, tried to tell them the problems they were having didn't really exist and that everything was fine. If you want to talk of arrogance, the attitude that many people were given by that dev team was arrogance.
And, you were right. The reverse patches I was thinking of were the ones for the beta patches that Dynamix put out before actually releasing their official patches. I personally don't know of any other dev team that has done that, but I suppose I could be mistaken on that too.
