Has anyone noticed that founder and long time admin at planethalflife, Fragmaster has quit. And he left a flaming rant aimed at Valve over at:
http://www.forumplanet.com/planethalflife/topic.asp?fid=6549&tid=1352802
Interesting on his accounts of the insider news items on Daikatana2, err I mean HL2.....
ooops just found the Re: The Planethalflife Guy section of the thread.....

Take aslong as ye like imo
They recently hired Scott Dalton from LE (Wheel of Time, XMP), I'd rather them spend another 5 years making it the best fps ever than have 4 mediocre updates.

Half-Life 5 would be nice, so many technological advances could be made if the series went that far. Though I doubt VALVE will stay in buisness long enough to make anything after Half-Life 2. lol

God, how long have I been waiting for Half-Life 2? It's been since I beat the original Half-Life, which was late 1998, so thats like 6 years. Jeez, Valve. What the hell?! Half-Life 2 should be an awesome game. Though the other future games, such as Duke Nukem Forever, Doom III, Quake 4, etc., I never cared about any of those games. Once I play Half-Life 2, I can officially stop playing computer games forever...that is, unless they make a Half-Life 3, or 4, or maybe even 5....

Im disappointed in Valve, for the sake of half life fans who deserve to at least know wtf is going on. Valve, take a good look at ID Software, that is how a professional game company operates. Bring on Doom3.

I might be rusty in my memory of the news they basically released a year ago, with little in between then and now, but did they promise 36 hours of gameplay? Itd be great if they did... heck 100 hours would be really awesome.

As long as we're talking about Half-Life 2, here's a question for you unopinionated lot....
If (or when) there is Half-Life 2, the movie, who should play the starring role?
Here's my vote...(scary, isn't it) http://www.digwig.com/images/FreemanJackman.jpg

Jesus, that's a pretty bitter editorial alright. I can understand how the guy feels though, and unless he's a total lying jerk (which I seriously doubt), it just shows that Valve was playing bullshit to try to get some hype off from other titles with whom they have to compete. (not to mention trying to keep ATI from suing them for breach of contract, due to the XT cards)
Way to fuck yourself in the ass Valve. Maybe it's time to kick that idiot Lombardi out the door and get someone with half a braincell to do the business end of matters for you.
Creston
Edit : I do know that content has been cut from the game in an attempt to get it to ship sooner
No verifying if its true, but it just sounds fucked up enough that Valve would do it. So much for that 36 hours of gameplay.

"After playing Far Cry, I don't really care about HL2 anymore."
Man, really? That comes a big shock to everyone, I'm sure. Such a turnaround from your previous opinions.
"but really more like Gabe Newell, whom they should get rid of"
If you read frag's note, it's pretty clear that the person he thinks is the big ar*e is Doug Lombardi, the marketing/business guy. And I'd have to agree there. Gabe's a pretty cool guy: he's just got his head in the clouds about some things. Lombardi is the dude who talked out of both sides of his mouth and has Valve pimped out to all sorts of different interests.
"A lot of people bought ATI video cards because of that free voucher and the unusually convincing signs of impending release. I bet that ATI and other market players forced Gabe [who is obviously in their pocket] to keep mum about the true state of the game to push cards off the shelf."
That's my guess, though there is probably even more to it.
"I'm sorry, but I feel for all the people with lower end computers who got screwed out of the one game they could still play (HL1) because of Steam."
Give me a break. WON is still up and running, and Steam is now working pretty darn smoothly. If you, for some reason, have a low end computer you will still always be able to play HL SP and set up your own low end servers for personal multiplay. I don't see anything wrong with them moving their user base for NEW content to only slightly higher system specs. Are they supposed to support the low end FOREVER and hold everyone else back? It's been six years since they last upped the system specs!

Normally I chalk up those type of comments to sour grapes. But if what he says is true about how involved he was in Half Life 2, this does not bode well for the game at all.
Though I am really looking forward to this game, I am going to hold off making a purchase until I see reviews and see how Steam will affect retail purchasers of the game.

Great link to the PHL guy...I pretty much agree with him. After playing Far Cry, I don't really care about HL2 anymore. It'll eventually get here, and then they'll be Steam issues, and then they'll be multiple patches, etc...it'll go on and on. Until it gets to a point where the game is fully playable and available on store shelves, I don't care about it. Valve had a great chance here, and they blew it. You can believe the source was stolen, you can believe it was all a big conspiracy, or you can believe they were no where ready to go for 9/30. What irks me is, instead of being honest and saying "we hit a few snags" Valve doesn't relay anything until a week before the game was supposed to be out.
So f#$* 'em...

Well, the main PlanetHalf-Life guy has packed things in...he wrote quite a departure article as well Fragmaster handled the mailbag there for a while. His responses were some of the funniest things I've ever read.
I wonder if they are still around?

Cyber, that post by the PHL guy was awesome. Thanks for sharing that link.
When you have people that close to the Half-Life 2 community turning their back on it- just goes to show how bad the company [but really more like Gabe Newell, whom they should get rid of] is at treating their customers.
A lot of people bought ATI video cards because of that free voucher and the unusually convincing signs of impending release. I bet that ATI and other market players forced Gabe [who is obviously in their pocket] to keep mum about the true state of the game to push cards off the shelf.
