you still don't get that the people who do not want to legitimately buy the game are not stopped for one second, in fact most of the time they still have the game before it's available in the shops in any country, and they do not use virtual drives to do this anyway, or, if, by chance, they do not bother burning the game before playing it, they are still using cracked executables anyway that remove the cd checks, so it is ONLY harming legitimate users.
it's clear from these forums that even people with a small amount of online knowlege who BOUGHT he game but are having problems are just hunting for the cracked exe's that get distributed with the pirate versions of games so they can play undisturbed, this is NOT how things should be either way.
patches should not be required for half your consumers to jsut play the game, AT ALL, in the first place, and as for painkille specifics some have already reported that the patch doesn't help them.
As for the quote you pick appart in post no. 66 below, it's clear from reading his coments on the plane analogy that he'd meant to be pointing out it's not the same as you don't own the plane, but you do own your PC.
