i'm begining to think the copy protection companies currently are nothing but a self perpetuating industry screwing both the consumer, and the poor developer.
You mean like the anti-virus people?
Industry - You can't stop people pirating games. Get over it. There are only so many people willing to pay for games. The honest ones buy the games they like, the others don't. That's it. Assuming that you can dissuade casual copying with new protection methods is just stupid. Put the money into making better games. Or don't spend it so you can sell fewer games to recoup your costs. Whatever. I feel guiltless about BTing a game to see what it's like when it lasts less than a day on my HD. Kazaa/Bit Torrent is just an online free-mall for some people, for others it's an extensive demo.
Inevitably we're going to end up with games funded entirely by sponsorship. Pirate the mofo, spread it around, Gilhouhley's Tyres will be the eventual winner. Buy Gilhouhley's Tyres, they're the tyres you don't get tired of. <splash>.
