"and then after that play Team Assault in Ia Drang Valley in the Vienam war era"

The good thing about BIS is, they know how to make an onfoot mil combat experience that is serious minded yet accessible to the players. And another thing, even tho they got tons of highly detailed vehicles, the onfoot mil combat experience doesn`t feel like it is taking a backseat to the vehicles. Not to mention, alot of care and detail went INTO said onfoot mil combat experience.
Now ya look at other competing Developers who make supposed *cough*milcombat*cough* games. The other devs are so busy watering down the mil combat feel to such quaker proportions, the only thing left of it is the skins. lol There really is No**logic to their gameplan. hahahahahaha

Considering it's a game where you can drive anything from a Mini-cooper, to a Soviet T-80, to a US M1A2, or pilot a Cessna, A-10, F-18, RAH66 Comanche (and that's barely even scratching the surface) plus throw in the fact that there's a large very talented addons community, it amazes me that the game works as well as it does, especially in MP. Most other games only have to contend with bullets physics, and slow player models. OFP MP successfully (most of the time) deals with players+landvehicles+choppers+jets.

I do hope OFP2 greatly improves upon some things, but I'm still having loads of fun with the original. Some of the new islands coming out now have graphics that make you wonder if it's still OFP.

It's still the only game I know of where I can be playing a CTF with modern jets from an aircraft carrier, and then in the next mission play a capture and hold with WWII tanks and planes, and then after that play Team Assault in Ia Drang Valley in the Vienam war era. There's no shortage of variety.

it has a lot more flaws that those mentioned actually.

But for something so large scale they don't really hurt as much as they would for others.

Maybe if you could compare it with something it would matter more.

But even with its flaws it's lovely and fun.

If a game dares to be as ambitious as Op Flashpoint, I can forgive many bugs. I would rather a buggy Op Flashpoint than a polished-till-you-see-your-pores-in-it Painkiller.

True. If any other game had those flaws I would have said it sucks. But OFP can still have a few more bugs before I would say it sucks.

Actually it should be hats off to Bohemian Interactive Studios (BIS). Codemasters is just the publisher.

Yes you are correct, hats off to BIS

Except they still have their f*ing cd-checking AND that the netcode is pathetic, not to mention that you're not able to join games while they are running, resulting in games with maybe 4 players left after 1 hour.

Yet somehow the game is still fun... go figure.

Flashpoint was a good game I give you that, but it has quite a bit of problems as well. Just to name a few:

- Anyone can squeeze through solid walls if he ducks and stand up enough times. (especially annoying when you make an ambush map and the defender AI supposed to shoot through windows, cause they'll end up standing out side of the house after a while if people start shooting)

- You can't swim yet you don't sink.

- Enemies won't shoot at a disabled tank (which means that if you get into one which can still move, you can basically run over everyone in the map without getting shot).

- Can't change side with script. (at least I haven't found it) And only 4 sides to choose from.

- Female civilians in resistance scream like men when shot

- You can run onto a 80 degree cliff if you run side ways.

- Targeting system gets screwed up too often. (When your AI leader orders you to engage a non exsistant target)

Easiest game to mod too.
FPS game with RTS mods etc.

Play it weekly with friends on a selfmade coop map, every time ends up differently.

Yup that's the game that has spoiled me most from all that prescripted linear crap that's released these days.

I remember my first time through the campaign, taking out a Russian base and spotting a Hind flying in. I look over and see a Russian tank and think, 'I wonder if I can climb in that and shoot the Hind down with the main cannon?' ....yup.

Still play it off and on to this day with the sweet ass ECP addon. The PMC Fury campaign is 200 missions of utterly awesome combat. The skills I picked up in that are helping me get through FarCry on realistic lol.

One of the best FPS's ever. Coming in just behind Half-Life and Tribes 1 IMHO (but certainly first in the realism genre). Kudos to them for continuing to update, even if you can't buy a copy of the game at retail anymore.

And you CAN play as NATO, Soviet, or Resistance, BTW.

Heh, I remember when this game was just called "Flashpoint," set in 1985, but involved a nuclear war between Russia and the US, then them fighting over a chain of islands that somehow escaped the scourge of spreading radiation. You were to suppose to be able to play either super power, or even the resistance. I kid you not, that was the storyline to the game before Codemaster's became publisher.

Okay, some people play it. But wouldn't you rather have OFP2????

I dont play it anymore, but I have to say its still the most memorable game ive ever played. its simply massive. the engine is also still awesome with a few flaws, but they arent that big. the editor is awesome and lets you feel more like a director than a level or mission designer. I cant wait for OFP2. I will buy a new computer for that game
Hey Karr, you did a great deal for the OFP community. Thanks for all the nice experiences and your nice server!

I still play it on a regular basis. So do my buddies. Makes for great lan play, and a ton of variety with all the maps and mods.

you might want to check your facts there captawe

"nobody plays anymore" is a rather large claim.
Wouldn't even dare say that about daikatana personally.

Not to mention something still as widely played and with a large community as OFP

How about working on OF2 rather than patching old games nobody plays anymore.

this game has no peers. fix the physics and add in-game joining and OFP2 will raise the bar once again.

just installed the ECP mod and addons - yea baby, even more realism and fun in this game!
