Far Cry "Boat" Demo Sinks

A post to the Far Cry Forums by Ubisoft community manager "piranha" has word that the "boat" demo, the delayed third single-player sample of Far Cry, has been cancelled (thanks Cyberfury). The update has a status report on the promised multiplayer demo, and a less-than-consoling review of the boat level, which now must be experienced via the full game:

We're sorry there has been so much confusion over the release of the "boat" and multiplayer demos. To clarify things :

- The "boat" demo has been cancelled and will not be released.
- There will be a multiplayer demo but it will be released soon after the release of the game.
- There will be five difficuly levels in the game, not three as in the demo.

We're only a few days away now from release. "Boat" is, personally, my favourite level and is well worth the wait

Try the DNA drivers, they kick the shit out of ATIs drivers any day. www.dna-drivers.nl With these, I have no problems whatsoever with far cry, unless I am a total dolt and leave the out of game settings (aa, af) on, and try to turn them on in game too. These drivers give you more stable, and higher frame rates on every game.

Time to get out of the Modem Age.

Less that and more, "Time not to slide into the inefficient and sloppily coded age."

Damn, just remembered we're already in that age.

I don't use ATI systray control panel either. It is a waste of resources. I try to keep my system clean as possible including virus scanners in background.

9800pro 128bit, Cat drivers 3.10 and I have had no porblems with any of the games lately (UT2k4, Far Cry, BFV). Come to think of it Ive never had any severe graphical problems with any games since I got this video card. Only thing I ever had to do was turn off the ATI control panel from the systray because it causes problems in Everquest for some strange reason.

Hmm that may be something to try...disable the ATI systray control panel and see if you still have these issues.

I also experienced graphical glithes with the Far Cry Demo- and currently with BF:Vietnam. I have a Ati 9700 pro. I wonder were all these problems are coming from? Is it a Driver issue in the game or in the catlyst Drivers? Is ATI slipping with support or are these game deveopers making boo boo's?

Anyone heard if they've managed to make their net code less crap yet?

64Kbps upstream? Perhaps it has a revolutionary new system where the server keeps track of each player's dating preferences.

There will be a full game editor, the same as used by the devs themselves, and an enormous user manual.

Cyberfury: Yeah, disabled FSAA makes the edges jagged. And I like anistropic to show more details in the distance. I have no problems if I disable both of these.

Ant, I have FSAA and Anisotropic disabled for the time being. I'll try enabling them and playing the game again and I'll let ya know if it still works for me.

"I'm not sure if multiplayer is strong enough for this game, no flying vehicles for multiplayer?"

IMHO the rash of games coming with flying/vehicle useage is sort of like a "me too" buzzphrase thing. It won`t be long till everyone is offering these features. I applaude FCs devs for doing their own thing, and not jumping on any bandwagons. I prefer an onfoot game, but thats just me. lol
I think the sp part of FC will be pretty fun/enjoyable. But it is the mods that will come that is most interesting. A talented mod team could do some pretty hardcore coolness with the FC editor.

the editor was currently shown in TV here (GIGA GAMES), and it looks pretty cool & very easy to use (from what I've seen)

plus they said that -while testing the full version on a Radeon- all the issues with that are gone...

seems like a real winner...

I have the same card and I had crashes to the desktop and some god awful sound problems, but doubt either have anything to do with the video card.

The editor is supposed to be pretty amazing. You can see it in action at the end of this tech demo trailer:

Cyberfury and Cochese: With everything enabled? FSAA 2x and Anistropic at max (16X?) at 1152x864 resolution?

Don't blame it on your video card. I have the same card and everything looks and loads great.
