Wow. First Sid Meier is redoing Sid Meier's Pirates, and now the original Syndicate team is redoing Syndicate. What's next? David Braben redoing Elite?
OTOH, gamesindustry.biz reports: However, we have been unable to confirm these rumours - with one EA insider telling us that the reports had "got their wires crossed" regarding Syndicate. I didn't like this demo at all. It is nothing like Syndicate gameplay to me.

Razkul saud "Any turn-based game put into a real-time environment is much faster paced, giving the need to not only control your actions, but the time taken to choose those actions. "
Thus speaks someone who has never commanded a group of people toward a multi goal set of tasks. I believe what Razkul meant, was that, in an RTS the player must not only plan their strategy and manage tactics (as in turn based games) but also consider how much time is put into each task. Will you personally watch over one of your attack forces, ensuring a better outcome, or spend time tweaking your economy? Will you take the time to precisely position units to give a tactical advantage, or instead spend the time ensuring your build queues are full and upgrades are being researched?
VultureMAN - you seem to be talking about real-life command situations, where this kind of thing is (usually) not an issue, while Razkul was referring to games. In an RTS game, the time it takes for you to give an order is just as important a tactical concern as the order itself.

The RTS =you're= talking about is mostly micromanaging. Turned based takes the time crunch out so you can actually plan. Otherwise, the only real strategy games would be the Combat Mission games - give orders and strategy, then it plays out, then you can give orders again, not 20 orders every minutes as you watch things play out.

Real time strategy games lack strategy at all... It's more number punching and stuff, and being able to counter. Turn based games give you the time to think through decisions... it's like chess on steroids. Some of the best fun I've had was with Fallout: Tactics lan games and Disciples Real-time strategy games are far more strategic then turn-based strategy games. Any turn-based game put into a real-time environment is much faster paced, giving the need to not only control your actions, but the time taken to choose those actions.
I haven't had a chance to check this demo yet but if its anything like Syndicate I'll be one of the first to the stores to pick it up.

Ya know, I might be stupid but Masters of Magic was the best strategy game ever made. To bad I've only played it a few times, it was a blast.

Yea.. WarCraft I was the bomb. Go on peon raids with your wolfriders, etc. Think it was one of the first RTS multiplayer games like that. We used to play over the modem and it was good.

Syndicate?! This is like Syndicate? Seriously?! Well, I'll swallow my skepticism for a minute and download it then. I agree with this sentiment... I wasn't too interested, but I'll give it a shot if it's drawing these comparisons.
Hmmm... intriguing.

Real time strategy games lack strategy at all... I don't see how. The Close Combat series were nothing but strategy. Trying to out-plan and out-maneuver your opponent while half the time you didn't know where their forces were or where they were going to hit you from. Tank battles were edge of your seat (Allied trying to sneak a shot on the ass of a Panther). You made due with what you had on the field and every loss was felt. I think the games with active resourcing (Command and Conquer, Real War, etc) should have been in a different category of RTS. Amassing forces and rushing... rinse, repeat isn't my idea of 'strategy'. But that's just IMHO. I've enjoyed both turn-based and real time.

Kinda reminds me of the futuristic game that I think either Interplay or Bullfrog did. Syndicate?! This is like Syndicate? Seriously?! Well, I'll swallow my skepticism for a minute and download it then. Mind you, it'll have to really impress me to even be allowed in the same paragraph with Syndicate, but I'll give it a try.
