Hah. Based on real battles in the Iraqi Freedom campaign. Choose to be the Americans and drive over your enemies in tanks. Or, choose to be the Iraqis and throw rocks.

I went way out of my way to try and get used to it but it just feels very unnatural. If there's one universal truth in life, it's that you'll always get used to vehicle controls. I think UT2K4's vehicle controls are actually fine, but I remember back when Tribes 2 came out and I first hopped in a Shrike. I thought those were the worst controls ever, but eventually I got used to them, got good with them, and gradually even started appreciating them.
Good times.

Yeah, Onslaught is cool but I just don't like the vehicle controls at all. Physics etc. aside, it's the worst control implementation of vehicles I have seen to date. Huh, I actually think the controls are done pretty well. Of course there are many other games which have better vehicle controls, but I think this is good for a FPS game. The vehicle I have the most trouble with is the Manta, but its still one of my favorites.

Onslaught is a blast, and while it feels too much like Halo to be unique...it's still pretty good. I do not think it is to similar to Halo. Yes, they both have vehicles, but in Onslaught, you actually have to work as a team in order to be successful - capturing, building and then defending nodes requires that. In Halo, even if it is team CTF, you could do your won thing and you team can win if you have one or two good layers on it - team work is really not required.
I guess the best way how I feel about it is this - in Halo, you need team work to operate the vehicles - someone needs to drive the buggy to get to the opponents base and the other player goes in to get it. Getting the flag is still done individually. In UT, capturing a node and defending it requires that the team work together otherwise the whole team fails.

I can't believe how much I am enjoying UT2004. I HATED UT2003-I literally couldn't play it more than one weekend. But this game/update is great. It really just feels much more solid than last year's version. Onslaught is a blast, and while it feels too much like Halo to be unique...it's still pretty good.

Not to mention, I'm still playing XMP I have played both Unreal XMP and UT2004 demo, and trust me, UT2004 is vastly better. I played XMP for couple of hours max, but the demo I have been playing all weekend. The demo does not cost you any money - why limit your self?

I think you mean Star Wars: Battlefront. Oops, yes, thanks for the correction. I'll have to check out this Galatic Conquest game (oh yeah, the BF 1942 MOD).
Personally, I want Star Wars: Republic Commando better than that I was looking forward to that also but PC Gamer painted a not so compelling picture of how it is going to play. Something like it's you (as the lead character) and two other Clone Troopers WHO CAN NEVER DIE (the other two troopers that is). Just sounds stupid, if it's true.

As for UT2k4... I'm just never going to play it. I don't like the idea of rereleasing games with material that should be included in the previous game or patched into it at least. Not to mention, I'm still playing XMP

I went way out of my way to try and get used to it but it just feels very unnatural. PC Gamer will have a big article about Tribes Vengence next month, I'll have to see what they say and then I'll determine who gets my money. My FY 2K4 game wish list goes HL2 (and it's MODS), Doom3, Star Wars Battlegrounds, and probably one more which will either be Tribes Vengence or equiv (like maybe onslaught if T:V sucks). I'd like to see UT2K4's UI have a vehicle setup page to allow you to disable the mouse if you are driving and such (or is there one to do so?).

The UT demo was all I played this weekend. I think I am getting addicted to it .....
Just had to share this - was playing 16 vs. 16 onslaught last night. My team had control of all the nodes, except the one closest to the opposing base which was always in contention, going back and forth. All I did was go to the node further up that was not being fought over and hop on a vehicle (did not matter which one) and head to the opponent's main base. Kept mowing down the players like bushels of hay during harvest season, LOL.
It got to the point where the in-game announcer announced multikills, and I had so many multiple kills racked up consequtively that the announcer said "Holy Shit!" - I nearly fell out of my chair laughing, it was so unexpected. Never seen that before. Not meaning to brag at all, just thought it was hilarious and wanted to share.
Looking forward to the full release a month from now.
