CoD Patch Status

Activision passes along word for those itching for info about the promised Call of Duty patch:

We wanted to let you all know that we're listening to your questions about the Call of Duty patch. I've spoken to the team and thought it might help to let you know that updates are definitely coming. Infinity Ward is working now to complete the first update meant to address several issues like bunny hopping, etc.. We also know that you're very concerned about cheat protection. The guys at Infinity Ward are currently considering the best way to address cheat protection. The guys are working really hard and as soon as I have more info, I'll pass it along.

Thatís pretty damned funny space captain. This is the same argument we see for anything that is generally despised by the majority of gamers. For instance, AWP whores in CS will always claim that you arenít a good player if you canít handle an AWPer. But what does the AWP whore do? He goes to a choke-point on the map, crouches, and waits. He shoots anything that moves and it will kill them in one shot. They cannot retaliate against a gun that kills them instantaneously. If the AWPer happens to miss, heíll do one of several things like hide behind a box or quick-change to the Deagle. The point is that the AWPer has a distinct advantage and camps and thatís all he does. It makes it boring for other players. The AWP whore is only concerned with himself. He doesnít care about anyone else at all. He is highly likely to be one of those people that do not care about the objective, and is a stat whore. The point is that this idiot is a selfish jerk.

Now, in COD, we have these feebs jumping around all over the place. Why do they do it? One reason, because they can win by doing it. They donít care that they look like idiots. They donít care that other people donít like them because of it. They care about one thing, winning. The problem with this, is not winning. Winning is a good thing. The problem is that jumping everywhere is exploiting a part of the game that was not meant to be used like that. Just like mines are placed on the map to keep people in the map boundaries, but there are people who know a couple of places on some maps that they can gain an unfair advantage and get past the minefield. Jumping everywhere does make them harder to hit. It doesnít have anything to do with being good enough to kill someone who exploits something. It has to do with the person exploiting the problem. The simple fact of the matter is that it is many times more difficult to kill someone who is jumping around in Call of Duty. It does look stupid. People in a real battle might use evasive action to prevent from being wounded or killed, but jumping like a stupid freak is not one of the things that they would do because it would not be a useful means except to expedite the end of their life.

So basically, to sum this up, I think that people who jump around are stupid, selfish assholes & people who defend them are probably the same stupid, selfish assholes that canít handle playing a fair game because their extremely delicate little bitty egos might get damaged by finding out that without their exploits they just plain suck ass.

you guys sure do like to bitch
I got used to bunny hopping in quake 1... there are plenty of ways to deal with it you know
maybe if you were a better player it wouldnt matter if they hopped or not

Ouch, that really hurts!!! I hate it when skilled players come in here and start bashing us... it scares me. I didn't hear anyone here say they have trouble killing bunny hoppers, although we all know bunny hoppers are amongst the elite in the world of online shooters. It's just fucking annoying and looks ridiculous in this game.

What makes me so angry is that these fools actually think they are good. The reality is that they are exploiting the game engine.

What I find so humorous is how they defend themselves for their cheap complete lack of skill playing style. They will say, hey it's part of the game, or, dude its just a game, or, I play to win. Now this is very funny to me because Call of Duty is a game which depicts the realism of war. Let me repeat that: Call of Duty is a game which depicts the realism of war. That's why they purchased it. That's why they wanted to own it. That's what they looked forward to when they thought about that present from Santa that was under the tree. And now they're bouncing up & down everywhere, looking like a complete idiot just so they can have some cheap kills.

Well, the patch obviously will do one of two things. A: It will have a DOD jumping-style. B: It will be impossible to aim while in the air. Personally, I feel they should do both, because so many little bitch ass kids are out there who would run to the nearest website to pick up a bypass cheat, so why not make it double difficult for them.

We will laugh last. When the stupid little girls can't jump anymore, they will be like cripples. We will have gotten used to playing the right way & they'll be selling their games on Ebay because they can't cheap any more.

The thing about "cooking" a grenade in actual combat is losing count... lots of things going on around you to get your attention. Could hurt. Lots.

There is nothing more aggravating than watching some CS boy bunnyhopping continuously through the whole map. Even the most ardent anti-hopper may jump occasionally when taken by surprise but these guys look like idiots bunny hopping when not even in a fire fight.

I find aiming down the sights to be reasonable, my problem is that the cross-hairs are too accurate. Using the cross-hairs should be the same as shooting from the hip and you can't hit squat when shooting that way unless the subjects five feet in front of you.

Cooking grenades... will soldiers were taught to throw with the pin attached and from what I've read no one really had the balls or the faith in the makers of the nades to release the pin and start counting down before throwing. But being the nade whore I am it would be nice to see but I could live with out it.

"Activision have only released this statement because so many ppl have complaind that they have been too quite."

I understand that, but if you frequent their forums you normally hear news about the patch getting submitted for testiing and the status, not daily but enough.

I guess I am just growing impatient.

I would tend to disagree about the aimed down the sights issue. There is only 1 gun that I feel its almost completely useless to use the sights, mp44 - the German light machinegun. Other than that its fairly easy to track your targets while you shoot with the sights up.

On a seperate note, I dont want to hear jack from IW and Activision until I see the headline "COD Patch Released". The patch has had on and off release dates for months now. Get the patch right and get it out, and quit toying with the public "After Thanksgiving" yea WAY THE FRIG AFTER THANKSGIVING.

I agree! When I use the iron sights I have a terrible time aiming. Sometimes I can't even see what I'm shooting when I spam away in the 'aim mode'. Even though I think CoD is a fine game in many respects, I still prefer Day of Defeat's gameplay over it.

"they actually thought they had addressed the cheating issue initially by making any modified pk3 files unusable on servers that ran "pure"..."

that has been around sense the q3 engine came out, but it wasn't enough for q3 or any game sense then so it makes no sense that it should be any different for cod.

"ut this also makes it impossible to place user maps in your main folder and join a pure server"

so not only did they fail to see the need for more cheat protection but they also borked q3's built in cheat protection? nice.

"(as well as the issue of not being able to place more than 4 or 5 maps at a time in your main , and still run stable )"

let me guess, they have all their assests spread out over a huge number of .pk3 files so just 4 or 5 maps pushes you over the built in limit?

Make the grenades more useful by being able to "cook off" just like the real ones. Otherwise grenades just bounce around and make people scatter, but do nothing else.

Also why does it take months to realise that bunny hopping is easy in COD and that most people hate it? I mean it took me all of 5 seconds to discover how easy and stupid this is!!!

If you market your game as an online shooter, why don't you include SOME form of cheat protection out of the box? Why does it take thousands of pissed off customers to complain about it for almost every single game to come out these days, before publishers decide that maybe they should put it in?

Obviously it's a money issue, but I doubt it's gotten a lot cheaper in the month and a half since the game's release? And it's not like Activision has no experience with online FPS games or anything. Just plain strange.
