Those are some of the most insenstive, ignorant comments I have ever read on a public messageboard. YOU should be ashamed of yourself for having such ill-conceptions about the world. People like you are the problem in today's world, not the other way around. "war solves everything". You are a warMONGER. I only hope to hell that you can eventually realize how horrible wrong you are. Go live in Iraq when the U.S. is dropping bombs on it, and tell me that war solves everything.

The real truth is that war solves everything. After 12 years of UN resolutions it was time to get rid of the problem in Iraq. WOMD or not it had to be done. People like Funct clame it was a "rush to war". Tell me, how did we "rush" (look the word up) to war? In fact the 1st Iraq war was never over.

War does not solve everything. Don't be so naive as to believe that. It can solve some things, and if the worst comes to the worst then it may be the best way forward, but it does not solve everything. The Iraq thing could have been solved by Saddam deciding to behave himself and be nice. A long shot I know, but not impossible. I do concede though, that it was sufficiently improbable as to never happen, and the intervention was wise to a certain degree.

However, the war was a load of crap. The reasons for war changed over and over again. WOMD? Pull the other one. Go invade North Korea if you're worried about WOMD. Oppression of the people? What about Zimbabwe, or again North Korea? The reasons for the war have been messed around with so much I'm not sure anyone knows the real truth.

Actually I can say I blame you for 9/11. Your view and opinion put us at risk. Now it's time switch the risk.

Uh... You can't blame someone for 9/11 because they don't approve of war. The only people you can blame for that are Bin Laden and his crowd who committed the atrocities. Oh, and you could blame the CIA who trained him as a counter terrorist leader in the area. Speaking of which, you know it was pretty much the American's that instated the Ba'ath party which led to Saddam Hussein? Hmm.

Funct if you are an american im ashamed of you. I'm sure Hitler would have had a nice place for you in his plan for the world. Welcome to the New World Order Pal.

New World Order? Where war solves everything? For pity's sake. As for the Hitler jibe... WW2 was necessary because Hitler had made his move and it was for the greater good. We had to stop him. As yet, I'm not convinced that Iraq is for the greater good. It's going to take a lot of work before Iraq is actually in a half decent state as a result of all this.

I refuse to get drawn in to another pointless debate with some NRA cardholder about which wars are not justified.

The only guns I own are in computer games, does that qualify me as a member of the NRA? Wonder if I can call them up, sign up, and get all kinds of free bumper stickers, and t-shirts!, maybe even a invitation to a free meal for the local group! Just tell them I got all kinds of shotguns, riffles, and rocket launchers! yeah baby …think I am going to try it, see what they say!

And I was just saying having an all voluntary military would suck, and the military does help a lot of people better their lives, people that are willing to put in a little effort to do it, so it is not all bad having a constant military force around, it is not just a waste of money.

But I am going to try and join the NRA now, based on my gun "collection" of computer games....see what they say!

*edit* damn it, why does my spell checker keep chaning does to doe's! AHHHH

You don't expect to have an entire national day for honoring soldiers without people debating that fact, do you? And besides, why must you assume our volunteer military should be honored as heros? They're heros because they can fly a stealth bomber from 90 miles in the air as they casually extinguish thousands of lives down below? Give me a break...

when one joins the military, they are agreeing to laying down their lives if the need arises. Most times theres no choice in which role you play, foot soldier, pilot, radioman, motor-pool mechanic etc. Just that fact alone deserves consideration. While you may not agree about the need for the military at least cultivate some respect for those willing to die for YOU.

vFunct, theres a book by Tom Brokaw by the name of "The Greatest Generation, you would do well to read it.

Personally I think it should be required reading for every public high school in the country.

Hey asshole! Veterans day is about honoring vetrans in a way that we don't see war again, because they realize that it's bullshit.
Vetrerans day is about preventing war, not recalling that a bunch of guys fought and died.

Round us (i.e. in England) it's Remembrance Day, and it recalls everyone that fought in the wars, especially those that died.
It sounds like it's similar in Canada.

The reality is that outside of WWII, we haven't needed to fight ANY war. Most "wars" are still predicated solely on economics. I can illustrate this very clearly if you wish.
That aside WTF is wrong with protesting war? Are you a warmonger? Human beings dying is better than people protesting it? Is that what you're saying?
War is one thing...bad. War should always...ALWAYS be a last resort. If you don't understand that, the problem isn't people protesting war. The problem is you need to look in the mirror.

Still in Iraq. Moral here is semi-high, depending on the job of the soldiers. Engineers are lower, since we do less "cool stuff" and projects get canned every 2 months. But it's a job someone has to do.

For Veterans Day, we commemorated by playing a little 3 person LAN game of BF1942 in the barracks. BF1942 in Iraq rocks! Flak jacket & kevlar not required for play.

Love ya guys, thanks for the support - can't wait to get back in to the swing of things. Two weekends a month my ass.

PS: All of the IRaqi people I've met seem to be friendly, the ones who don't like us generally keep to themselves when we're out and about. The kids here are too damn cute, and I feel bad when I see them sick or injured. Life was not easy before, hopefully it's getting better now.

I would rather the government “waste” money on those people, willing to work to better them self’s then just hand out welfare and unemployment to waste of space lazy asses.

Oh dear...inner...liberal...exploding. Let's not get carried away now....

I would just like to say that vFunct makes a good point when he says "there are other ways to win things beside war." This is true. War should alwaysalwaysalways be the absolute last resort. In some cases it has been, and in those cases it's been justified. I refuse to get drawn in to another pointless debate with some NRA cardholder about which wars are not justified.

And I was failing to even consider the fact that the Canuck version of the holiday is different... sorry for correcting you.

Must...resist...making...comment...about...stereotypical...American.... Phew. Dodged that bullet.

Oh, and the term Canuck is not derogatory. But I'd prefer to call us hosers if you must. Oh, or you could just say "Canadian". I know it's a little long and the Yanks here might have problems remembering how to spell it, but for god's sake you have the longest country name in the world. You know, I always understood the term Canuck to be a bit of a put down. Is that true?

I'm sure someone here will know the answer but it would surprise me if it were a put down. Mostly because, as you know, it's the nickname for Vancouver's hockey team.
