Out of the Blue

The popular threads listing will definitely return, I'm pretty sure that will not be later than tomorrow... The retro colors checkbox is slated to return, it just needs debugging to work with the new design, though I'd be less than honest if I didn't admit I have some concerns that the assurances I've received that this is going to work were overly optimistic, but we'll see. The good news there is that if it can be fixed to provide retro colors, that will open the door to easily offer further such customization options. As for the .plan listings, I hadn't really considered this in quite a while, but comments in the forums illustrate that this has become a less than essential resource for the gaming enthusiast, so at this point I'm leaning towards not bringing back the latest .plan listing.

Otherwise tweaking is still going on, feedback on the overall design, tweaks, or the status of the items mentioned above are all still more than welcome. Thanks to all who have offered thoughts, both pro and con, to what's going on here.

What I find so irritating about this html-add is that when i scroll down to older news I suddenly find myself scrolling through an add instead of going further down the page

Looks like it got pulled? (Hopefully forever? Sorry Blue!)

I am using mozilla firebird and IE for work, my screenrez is 1280 but i am running my browser at about 900 pixels wide since most sites are designed for 800x600 and reading text @ 1280 is less comfortable.
Admittedly, the percentage devoted to content was already bad, but it's worse now (specially that blob of nothingness). It is slowly turning into a magazine where you have to skip the first 20 pages of adds to see the index where this site should be more like a newspaper, showing the big headlines first.
I understand blue's predicament but I hope he'll manage to find a more sensible (=userfriendly) solution.

Being a rugby player (scrum half) I suffer a lot from neck injuries. Brufen to take down the swelling and ibuprofen for the pain works wonders for me. Get the swelling down and you can generally support your own hea weight then.

Never argue with an idiot. They will drag you down to their level and beat you with experience.

The only ad I can't stand is the HTML ad between today and yesterdays news. I put UGO and whatever the name of that gaming site into my hosts file, but now the front page of Blue's comes up white, making it very hard to read (since I guess the background is hosted on UGO).

Hopefully we'll have a subscription option at some point, but Blue's doing the best he can.

The previous ads I could almost swallow, because they were somewhat removed from the content area (popups, pre-site ad) but this.. is just a bit too much.

It doesn't get much better at 1024; content is still only about 1/4 of the initial screen.

What browser are you using? I use Opera at home and Opera and IE and work, both running at 1024x768, and it doesn't look much different that it was previously.

I'm shocked by the redesign!
I understand you having to keep your head above water in these times but this redesign hurts. I don't know how many visitors here still view pages at 800x600, but at this resolution more than 7/8 of the page is not content related, 1/3 is logo plus a load of nothing and 1/3 is add. That is very bad ergonomics.
It doesn't get much better at 1024; content is still only about 1/4 of the initial screen. It is very bad use of screenrealestate and the load of nothingness is a crime. Even worse, at 800x600 there is a horizontal scrollbar, very unprofessional. You should try to get the content to fill at least 50% of the view and that should be doable, please give it a try.
It is a shame to see your site slipping like that. Fortunately the content, once scrolled into view, is still great.
Technically, it is a shame to see you still using the dreaded font tag, is has been outlawed by the w3c for, um, 2 years and sortof defeats the use of stylesheets, it simply might not work in future browsers. The stylesheet could incorporate more designlogic, although it looks well organized it is just a bunch of classes. The overuse of tables could also be avoided, even concidering compatibility with other browsers (who uses version 4 or older browsers these days?) Is it so determined by whatever CMS you are using? I would love to see not only your content but your site rock as well.

Ok, so anybody wearing glasses, does my sig dance when you move your head around. And people not wearing glasses, does it dance for you too? I need to know!

Tried it with my contacts in, tried it with contacts and glasses, tried it without either, tried it with just my glasses. Same result everytime, no dancing. Are you sure it isn't the drugs?

I got the idea from Razorwynd in the counter JACK thread

He pointed it out, and he can see it, and as far as I know, he is not tanking any Valium? heh

Maybe you have to be on a CRT monitor, or you on a LCD?

What, it doesnt dance for you when you shake your head around?

No.

My vote's still on the Valium "that's not working". You're probably not even moving your head, you just think you are.

Speaking of which (Enahs), I remember you mentioning your pain a few days ago, but not lately...did the doctor get you straightened out (no pun intended)?

He gave me Valium, it did not help.
So I pretty much spent Friday evening, and all of Saturday, and most of Sunday morning lying in my bed with a neck pillow that has a built in vibrating massage thingie, staring at the sealing(went through like 14 AA batteries to keep it running). Occasionally getting up to check a few things (like here!)
I rigged up three mirrors so I could at least see the TV, while staring at the ceiling though.

It is still sore, but it is getting a lot better now, only on it's own, ahh the power of the human body to heal (and start hurting for no apparent reason to!).

It was hurting me since last weekend, but I try not to take my problems and let my attitude change, and bring people around me down. I just brought it up here Thursday night, incase anyone might have a miracle cure (ya never know). You guys did not, you suck

But damn it, now I gotta go back to work tomorrow...

*edit* blue, add 5 more characters to the sig, so my "s" can show up The dancing letters is just so cool!

So Enahs, I see the drugs are starting to kick in.

Speaking of which (Enahs), I remember you mentioning your pain a few days ago, but not lately...did the doctor get you straightened out (no pun intended)?

Tomorrow's another Monday...reminds me: I came up with a slight modification to Daylight Savings Time last year. In the fall, the "fall back" hour should be pushed to a Monday morning. And the "spring forward" in spring should be moved to 4:00pm on a Friday afternoon (and yes, by law you'd get paid for that hour on Friday).

What do ya think? nin for president in 2004?
