Out of the Blue

It's kind of hard for me to believe, but this site has now been at the bluesnews.com domain for seven years now(!) I got the date on this scrambled, and actually should have mentioned this yesterday, which was the actual anniversary of the move, which took place on October 9, 1996. It's been a wild ride, and I want to thank you all once again for all the amazing support you have shown over all these years, which has made this all possible. Anyway, the seventh anniversary is kind of bugging me out, because I know I've written in this space about my own shock at realizing that a given game was that old, so now I have a similar perspective on this site. Blue's News (or blue's Quake Rag at the time) actually began on my home ISP over a year before (the best estimate I've been able to conjure is August 1995), so that makes us over eight, and that much closer to double digits (eeek!). Anyway, thanks again from the bottom of my heart for your support.

Definitely going to see Kill Bill: Vol. 1 today... hope it's a winner!

Play Time: Psycho Techno Hypno Kitten Snake.
Stories of the Day: Texas Men Tripped Up by 'Whizzinator'. Thanks Kazmont.
Md. first lady's Britney quip draws fire. Thanks yonderboy.
Teenager pinned under vehicle uses jack to free himself.
Science!: Scientists think universe shaped like soccer ball. Thanks Rigs.
Meet the artificial muscle man.
Study: Antibiotics may help stave off Alzheimer's. If you remember to take them.
Follow-up: Alaska Bear Mauling Recorded on Tape. Thanks Rigs.
Thanks Mike Martinez.

Bush is a pawn, plain and simple. WOrse yet, he's an amoral, greedy, pawn. Research the repeal of environmental protection laws in favor of corporations that Bush either directly chairs or is a majority stockholder.

There is no WMD in Iraq, there never was. Its no accident that England supported us since 9/11, going as far as to directly lie to their own people to justify war in Iraq. George Bush and British Prime Minister Tony Blair are 13th cousins. You can verify this through a number of geneaology sites.

They both are direct descendants of the French/European ruling families of the past ten centuries. Those of you familiar with the Bilderbergs and Council on Foreign Relations and the roll they play in world affairs can put 2 and 2 together. Those of you who aren't...start searching the internet...but be prepared for a depressing realization.
You've been forewarned.

Then search the name Adam Weishaupt, our real first President. That'll keep you busy for a bit.

Don't believe everything you read, and definitly don't believe everything you see on the propoganda, er, uh, news.

Have fun!

Congratulations Blue.
I first visited your site back in 1997 due to a Quake\id Sofware article I read in PC Gamer UK 97 christmas issue which had your Blue's News site listed as a excellent Quake related site and since then I have been and shall continue to be a daily reader. I also enjoyed Shooters.
Thank You
GG:)

What's odd is, I don't remember how I FOUND this page...

I've been thinking about that too, but I can't remember either. I figure that Blue's must have been linked off of Stomped, or I found it in a Yahoo search for Quake-related sites. Ahh, those were the days.

(the days when gamers actually liked games).

I've been trying to figure out how long I've been coming here and my best guess is early '97.

I'm the same way, and I'm not sure. I'm going to say the fall of 97 for me, since it was after quake and before Q2test (I specifically remember that coming out and reading about it here).

What's odd is, I don't remember how I FOUND this page...

72. Re: Opera Oct 11, 2003, 04:07 BicycleRepairMan

Now if only I could figure out how to allow Bluesnews pop-ups, there's probably a way to do it, I've just gotta find it...

In Opera , the easy way of allowing pop-up is hitting F12, then hitting the letter you want. "A" to "Accept pop-ups" for example.

I use to be the worlds biggest Opera fan, until I found Mozilla Firebird, IMO even better, faster, and more configurable than Opera, and free. There you can also always allow pop-ups for spesific urls or domains (depending what you want.) It also blocks Takeover ads, I see this as a 100% Good Thing, so I havent bothered to figure out how to turn them on. I prefer clicking the banners etc on Blue's to make up for not seeing the popups/takeovers

http://www.mozilla.org/products/firebird/

Dont forget to use all those extensions, to make it fit your needs like a glove. If there's some option or feature missing, theres probably an extension for it. Everything from advanced tab-browsing to built-in Tetris ot MSNmessenger.

Edit: link fixed

Drannok > Strait up.

Greatest action sequence I've ever seen; with all the "fodder". I was also glad that the Japanese was pronouced correctly. I hate faker movies.

I was pleasently surprised

The world is full of tyrants. Many far worse than Saddam, yet their people see no liberation simply because they have nothing we want. It's hypocrisy and greed at its finest.
You're right. It's about priorities and resources (and I don't mean natural resources). If part of your foreign policy includes pacifying the Middle East, Iraq is the perfect launching point. We have a past history of aggression with them, Saddam was relatively weak (militarily speaking the regime was still capable, however, as the conflict demonstrated, the military was not up to par psychologically).

Just think about it for a second... if we invade (or liberate, or conquer, whatever your preference) Iraq, we can pull out of Saudi Arabia (and end our self deprecating relationship with the royal family), we have a launching point for putting pressure on Iran, and Syria to comply with requests and demands (by both our government individually, and the UN... do you honestly think the Iran would have cooperated with UN requests for inspections if we didn't have 140k troops and heavy armor 40 miles from their border?).

No matter what you think of the Bush and his administration, or their politics, it's obvious that success in Iraq will have long standing positive repercussions in the region, and for our country as the world's only remaining superpower.

[EDIT]
Oh yeah... who gives a crap that some politician said she would shoot Britney if she had the chance. I would bet that a majority of the nation would too.

Did you see the most recent Frontline last night? Great stuff. You can still see it online.

http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/pages/frontline/

It very clearly demonstrates how Bush and pals lied through their teeth to get all of this going on. The innuendo and outright lies simply boggle the mind. The fact that people can swallow that tripe never ceases to amaze me. Had I a few less scruples, I could be a very rich man right now. Better a poor man in Heaven, than a rich man in hell? I guess we'll find out at some point.

Sadly, I have an immense amount of respect for Powell, although that's dimished a fair deal given his part in all of this. He really is the only decent one of the bunch.

I also feel sorry for a lot of those guys in Intel and State that have been tainted by all of this as well. Most of them are pretty decent people, and the fact that they've been run roughshod over is slap in the face. The fact that the public has been suckered like they have is even worse.

I may loathe Rummy, Cheny, Wolfy and Condy but I respect their personal intelligence. Bush on the other hand is just a puppet clown. Too bad the former lack the morals to really do the "right thing".

Rummy and Cheny are the classic snakeoil salesman. It's just a shame that people keep buying that "miracle tonic" the way they have from time immemorial. Oh well, those who forget history are indeed doomed to repeat it.

I'm not sorry that Saddam is gone. That's a good thing. I do not dispute that. It's simply the real motivation and method by which they ousted him that has me pissed.

The world is full of tyrants. Many far worse than Saddam, yet their people see no liberation simply because they have nothing we want. It's hypocrisy and greed at its finest.

Some good learning material with this publisher.

Prey Story
There's a Preview of Prey in c|net sneak peeks which I was gonna ignore (it's a puff piece with a link to their interview with Tom Hall from three weeks ago). But Death Angel of Death Angel's Quake Page wrote me about it, and when I read it again, it made me laugh. I mean preview... hello? If they're as late on this as tradition holds, we could be coming hard on the year 2000 before this game comes out, and we're getting a couple of screen-shots as a sneak preview (as well as the Broussard interview)? A little spin doctoring going on after all the defections, don't you think?

It cracks me up everytime I read that...Happy Birthday/Anniversary!!!
