I will agree with you on a lot of points, and I don't want to seem like I'm totally ragging on the game as I do love the storyline, cutscenes, music, AI, sound FX, etc. and the weapons seem prefectly fine to me. Overall it's a very good, solid FPS.
But one thing I
totally hate in games is tedious repetition. It's really disappointing to go through the early levels which are quite fun, only to hit the Search for the Control Room/Index levels, where it quickly becomes NOT fun. You know every 5 steps or so the Flood will come jumping out of every wall vent, the only question becomes - "when is this shit gonna get over with so I can continue with the fun parts?" There's no sense of progression indoors since everything looks the same, so it doesn't feel like you're getting anywhere.
Boy, if I ever become a mad scientist, I will design my lair so that all hallways and rooms are exactly the same... so any intruders would quickly become bored and leave (or get confused, and starve to death when they can't find the way out...).
I'm still glad I got the game (haven't tried multiplayer yet though) but I can say I'm disappointed as it could have been so much better. Oh well, bring on Max Payne 2!!!
