CIA Spies Game Plans

CIA pursues video game on The Washington Times (thanks Rain-X) has word that the spooks in Washington are looking to enhance their outside-the-box thinking via a video game. Here's a bit on the project, as well as a reaction from one of the naysayers who likens this to another recent offbeat plan that came under quite a bit of fire:

The CIA is set to spend several million dollars to develop a video game aimed at helping its analysts think like terrorists, The Washington Times has learned.

The agency's Counter Terrorist Center, or CTC, is working with the Los Angeles-based Institute for Creative Technologies on a project designed to help its analysts, "think outside the box," a CIA spokesman said. The project is close to approval, but officials wouldn't comment on the exact cost of the program.

The institute, part of the University of Southern California, works with Hollywood movie and video game specialists.

Disclosure of the CIA video game project follows the Pentagon's recent cancellation of a plan for an online gambling parlor designed to predict a Middle East terrorist attack. The Pentagon's gambling scheme led to the resignation of retired Navy Vice Adm. John Poindexter, head of the Total Information Awareness data-mining counterterrorism program.

A military official said the CIA video game is "a ridiculous and absurd scheme that makes Poindexter's project look good in comparison."

See, if we give them food for free and leave them alone to live in peace then they will stop trying to kill us.

It's possible, but I'm skeptical. Some people in this world do nothing but preach hate. It's in the U.S. (the klan, etc.), and it's around the world (Osama, and at least a few other factions we've pissed off in the last 100 years). They don't know you. They don't WANT to know you. They just want you dead to bolster their own agenda.

having of course nothing to do with a muderous zeal to see the rest of the world convert to an extremist belief system that calls for the death of all "infidels" (re; NON-Moslems) and the eradication of an entire race of people (Israel)....

I think that's the .1% of the problem.

Somehow I doubt your average computer would be able to run a game like that, even if it does leak. You would most likely need a custom sextuple Xeon or something. Who knows what kind of whacked out tech they have in their little private dungeons.

Well, I doubt that would be an issue. Their computers will be massively enhanced for things like databases, code breaking, chemical modelling etc etc. But ours are massively enhanced for 3D rendering and games. It's all down to what the system is designed for.

Besides, I have to say I doubt the CIA has anyone up to Carmack's standard of programming when it comes to 3D gaming or whatever. Sure, they're probably got some scarily good programmers, but for databases, code breaking, chemical modelling etc etc.

Hey, dont forget that you could be a CIA agent in deep cover, only to have your cover blown by the White House, because your spouse told the truth about Bush's lies.

It seems that Israel fits your definition nicely - by its own volition, Israel has instituted the most lethal form of Aparteid on this planet! A truly racist and fanatical state, Israel collectively punishes an entire race of people based on their ethnicity.

And anything more than a half-hearted attempt at introducing civilians to CIA activities would, of course, need to include the requisite drug running, assasinations, training and funding terrorists, torture and terrorizing of civilian populations and the leaders of popular movements and labor unions. This is the reality of the CIA.

The number one reason why anyone becomes a terrorist/freedom fighter is discontent. Discontent due to poverty and oppression. Stop oppresing people, eliminate poverty, and you've eliminated 99.9% of the problem

lol If the game has to run on the average CIA issue PC, it'll probably be written in QBASIC.

I got the same thing. There's nothing in that article that says this game would be released to the public--but if you don't think this game will leak, you're nuts. Rest assured, if there's a game out there, we can get it.

I just read the news release again, and I still can't find anything that suggests that this 'game' is going to be released to the public.

A much easier, faster, and cheaper way to do it would be send them to live in a ghetto for a few months with no money, no prospects, and no hope of ever having a better life under whatever puppet dictatorship the CIA has installed in said country to keep the people oppressed so said country can better represent U.S. economic interests.
Let the despair build up, then turn into anger, which then manifests itself in the desire to break free of said oppression by any and all means necessary.
Freedom fighter or terrorist? All depends on which side of the fence you live on.
When you tend to make a habit of stomping around the world, murdering and exploiting people for personal gain, they tend to get pissed off and want some payback after a time.

Give this book a read to gain some solid insight into why the CIA is [sarcasm]loved and adored[/sarcasm] around the world.

Think like terrorists? Only those bozos would concieve of something as dumb as that. The number one reason why anyone becomes a terrorist/freedom fighter is discontent. Discontent due to poverty and oppression. Stop oppresing people, eliminate poverty, and you've eliminated 99.9% of the problem. There will always be that other .1% of people who just aren't happy, or are insane or downright evil, but that's a much more acceptable margin to live with. The path we're on now with globalization is the perfect breeding ground to foment terrorism.

Is it any worse than America's Army?

No--just different. America's Army is used to recruit and train kids for the army. The CIA game will be used to recruit and train kids for terrorism.

I'm sure it probably is, since America's Army is a pretty decent game ;P.

I'd have to agree with the anonymous military official.

The Counter Terrorist center?

So what they're going to teach them is to run with your knife out straight at the terrorists, then pull out the biggest sniper rifle the world has ever seen and leap about shooting at people. As a result of this the CIA counter terrorists will either cap the entire terrorist force and can then all simultaneously shout "H4w f@g!!" at their dead bodies, or they will get shot and a voice from their dead bodies will shout "OMGWTFWALLHACK CHEAT BITCH!!!".
