Out of the Blue

Apologies for the non-update here. In brief, my mom, who has been receiving treatment lately for her second recurrence (third incidence) of breast cancer had what is described as a "massive" stroke last night. We're off to see her in the hospital, but her prognosis has been described as grim.

I just wanted to fill you in, as I'm not sure when I'll be back at this point. Thanks for your understanding, and for any good thoughts or prayers that anyone can muster on the occasion.

When my mom was about 55, a blood test revealed cancer in her lymph nodes. She went in for testing and doctors discovered she had breast cancer. Doctors advised that she could have minor surgery, or, go through full radiation treatment in the hope of erradicating all cancer in her body. She went through chemotherapy and radiation treatment, her hair fell out, and she had a masectomy.
Apparently, the hair loss and fatigue accompanying treatment has a debilitating mental effect. Our support helped buoy her spirits. She fought it with dogged determination not to let it get her down. She continued to run, play tennis, and continued her post graduate theological training as much as she could. She spoke with other breast cancer survivors.
For about six months, we didn't know if she'd be able to overcome the cancer. She kept her spirits up, thinking positively that she would survive.
She's 61 now, her hair has grown back (kinky, not straight/wavy like it used to be), and her tits looked ok last time I saw her at the beach. Since the cancer, she's become an internationally recognized environmental episcopalean minister and businesswoman .. who has many productive years ahead of her. No one would guess that she's a breast cancer survivor.
Things may look grim now, but, help keep her hopes high and she will overcome it.

Been lurking on a daily basis for the past 4-5 years now....first post ever....I am so sorry to hear the bad news about mother Blue. I hope the cry of support from this community, and all the lurkers like me who never had any intention of posting on the forums until now, helps you if even just a little bit in this, your time of need.

I hope your Mom knows so many thousands of people are praying for her well-being at this very moment.

Blue, I too am a long time reader of Blue's News and I deeply appreciate all the hardwork, information and notices you put together on a daily basis as well as the humor you bring to us all.

I well understand how difficult it is for you right now as my mother has breast cancer that, after the 3rd incident of it in her body, she has decided not to treat as well as having a father who recently had a severe heart attack.

While I gave up my Catholic faith long ago, I'll send off what could be loosely described as a "prayer" for you and yours.

Come back to us Blue when you're ready, we'll be here.

Regular visitor (start my day here), rare poster.

I hope everything works out well. Whether this is her time to go or not, she can be content in knowing she raised her son right.

Best wishes, and we will all be here when you return.
