As a long time lurker and first time poster, I whishes you and your family best luck on those difficult times.
As for the flowers, I think it's too intrusive. Maybe if some people in the group have too much time on their hands, setting up a way to make a group donation to the Breast Cancer Research could be more useful and less intrusive.

1) For the longest time i was an anti-fan of the site as i'd felt some sort of personal wrongdoing from Blue, but this is not the kind of thing you'd wish on anyone. period. I sincerely hope everything works out for Blue and family.
2) Conversely, having been given a quite different perspective on the site since about year ago, I want to congratulate you, Blue, on having attracte such an intelligent and mature group of individuals to your work.
This is the kinda thing that shows just who your friends are. And apparently you have thousands every day.
Again my best hopes for your mom and the rest.

Considering how private he has been regarding his mother's health I would have to say this would be a bit much.
I agree. It's a very nice, thoughtful idea, but we don't want to creep him out.
edit: I think one of the best things we can do right now (besides show our support here) is give him time and space.

Considering how private he has been regarding his mother's health I would have to say this would be a bit much.
However, should Frans, loony, Bagpuss, Furn, or any other person that is close to Blue post some news concerning her status along with links for something along the lines you mentioned....that could work quite well.

I thinks it's great that so many people (including a lof of lurkers) have posted their best wished for Blue's family. In addition to my own best wishes I'd like to take it a step further...
This is just a suggestion, but would it be considered crossing some line to find out what hospital Blue's mother is in and send her some flowers from the Blue's News reader community? I know there are a lot of intelligent people here, and more than a few with a lot of extra time on their hands...

I am going through a little bit of this with my father at the moment; he just a carotid artery replacement up to his brain stem. He is about as high risk for a stroke as possible at the moment.
Just that is hard enough to deal with. I can't imagine what you are going through right now.
Take as much time away as you need; everyone here understands. This site is meaningless compared to the importance of loved ones.
We are will thinking about you and hoping for best.
