http://www.saunalahti.fi/frog1/wavs/sister.wav Not sure what sound byte that is, but I doubt I'll be playing it while I'm here at work!
but don't like it that much *ducks* as it's not so great in the visual sense I only watch the first half while they're in basic...that's the classic part! So you know who he is now?

No, it wasn't a great movie but the first half with Ermey goes down as one of the best boot-camp sequences in war movie history. Great performances by all the supporting cast as well.

erm, ok, lol... so much for a comment about a film to a non-english guy who don't fully understand the meaning of the quote in the context and is not a fan of that film
...and I already wondered, why you would say this as your previous comments were in the same direction
sorry, I'll take all back - case closed
as for FMJ; have seen it a couple of times a long time ago, but don't like it that much *ducks* as it's not so great in the visual sense (looks often like a amateur flick) and has uninteresting camera work, imho

errrr....it was actually a compliment. R Lee Ermey was the real-life Marine Drill Sargent who pretty much played himself in the Stanley Kubrick movie "Full Metal Jacket" (said story taking place in the Vietnam era). Here's the phrase (wav file) that was the subject of my reference:

wooha, the first trolling reaction just for me
I don't know who's R. Lee Ermey (so I don't know his voice), I don't know about your heart - and I don't know what you're trying to tell me... instead of trolling to me you could explain, what's so bad with Epics new publishers deal ? All I heard was "oh my god, MS is making everyone's bitch" and "Epics is selling out"... Halo ? I think MS bought Bungie - and that is very different than a publishing contract. Well I'm sure MS will make some suggestions but everyone who puts some million $'s in something would do that. And I'm also sure Epic has secured their independence on all their decisions in the contract. They are big boys now, they can do that. And I fully agree with #16; there you have already the reasons for Epic. So instead of troll bitching me with a *cough*funny*cough* comment give me some reasons what in your opinion was so wrong with that comment.

Well, without going into too much detail, an abbreviated (only half or so, I don't feel like instructing people how to do this) list of materials needed to make an XBox rip includes:
a modded XBox (ie: opening your XBox and melting chips and such in there), ISO image mounting software, XBox replacement dashboards, DVD burner, FTP programs and knowledge of using them, XBox specific programs, etc, etc....
It a *lot* more complicated than pirating PC games, and something that a lot less people do. Yes, it obviously can be done, but you're still going to lose less profit on XBox game development than PC because of the difficulty in both ripping the copy and making your own media.
This is a bit more complicated than "stick the CD in and hit 'copy' and there you go" like it is with PC games.

Publishing deal only, thats ok.
But is it only for games produced by Scion Studios?
Or is it for all games produced by Epic from now on?

sorry, but in this case I can't see the oh-so negative effect - Epic changes the publisher - and what ? They will now make games for Windows and X-Box - OMG
... did they do anything different before ??? First Unreal/UT for Win (the former shareware games don't count for this), later UC on XBox - the UT port on PS2 was complete crap, the DC version was better but the console already died. So in the end nothing changes except the publishers mark on the box - and Epic has maybe some more money for developing.
And I'm pretty sure they will still release the Linux binaries as they always did - for free and mostly in their sparetime... This comment was edited on Sep 17, 08:24. |

It's not nearly as easy as pc games.. for one, you have to mod your xbox, which is a little more difficult an initial step than going "oh, I feel like downloading X game today"... and I'm too tired to keep going, someone continue this thought. =)

Why can't developers stay independent?
just to add to #16's excellent post: people like knowing where their next meal is coming from. Being self-employed I can attest to the fact that not having a steady paycheck rolling in every week when you've got a family, payments, etc. can turn you into a quivering mess.
