I'm more influential than W? Since you called me a a zealot, and I seemed to be the one making the arguements during the discusion, you must be reffering to me and those like me? Are you saying that we have some sort of influence, outside the world of gaming? Or within thw world of gaming? It was the webmasters who achieved the results, not us.
And Blue+others said they would not carry the demo even after the exclusivity expired. Now, there is no exclusivity at all, so the objection is gone.
And do you realy think the extra hits generated any significant revenue? Maybe like 5-10$ extra, but so what. In perspective, thats almost nothing.

What's going to be REALLY funny is watching you whiners force the file distributing companies like FilePlanet out of business by taking away the few ways they have to get and keep customers. You fools will be paying MORE MONEY AT THE CASH REGISTER when this happens, because no one will want to absorb the cost of distributing demos.
Enjoy your short-sighted victory while you can.

Actually, bub, with the level of discussion on this board, I doubt there is a single potential customer here.
Lots of potential copyright infringers, yes, but no actual potential customers.

No offense Meezy, but you have the slightest idea what you're talking about. It's all about supply and demand. We demanded and they supplied. That's how it works. Pissing off potential customers is never a good idea.

Welp, we've won the battle but we have yet to win the war. They're trying to make this all about this specific demo. They haven't mentioned a change in policy with regards to demo exclusivity.

Hey Blue, will the participating websites be carrying the demo now? Since it is no longer exclusive, I think you should. I think that goes without saying.
After discussions with Activision, the following websites will not be carrying the Call of Duty playable demo, even after its exclusivity is over.
Whoa whoa whoa, hypocrisy alert. So the exclusivity deal ends Friday. I thought you and the other sites weren't going to carry it even then.
So lets recap: These sites get enormous hits on their message boards. This generates higher than usual ad revenue. The tides turn so now they seek to double up the revenue?
Just as I thought, its all about the $$$$. Duly noted.
For all the people who think you have won. Consider the following. You have just traded free (as in beer) for free (as in speech). Corporations (yes, these employ people) will now be considering the words of a few zealots in their actions. Sounds good, but in the long run all of you are now responsible for more freedom being eroded. More that W or any politician ever did. You just took away Activision's and Gamespy's freedom of association and market.
But hey, you win. Congrats.

I think Activision caved to a bunch of whining children. No, Activision caved to a bunch of potential customers. Since they want to sell their game, doesn't it make good sense for them to do what they can to not piss off potential customers? Like not making them pay for some downloading site just so that they can try out the game that Activision wants them to try and like and buy? I really don't see what the issue is here. It just makes good business sense from Activision's standpoint. Yeah, maybe GameSpy doesn't like it, but they aren't the one's trying to sell the game.

Would like to say congratulations to Blues and all other sites who had the guts to stand up for all us gamers (even the ones who don't understand what the real problem is). It's things like these that keep our gaming "community" thriving and not being pushed into the ground by growing exclusivity and pay programs.
Everyone knows this one demo wasn't a big deal, it's the threat of things getting worse and worse that is where the problem is but it looks like Blues has helped Activision to understand (in record time too I might add) that moves like this do not strengthen the community but only add to the growing divide between the large "company" websites and the "ma and pop" operations like Blues or Shack who struggle just to keep their websites paid for.
Once again thanks Blue. Been coming here for almost 5 years (first night I've ever posted though) and will continue to come here as long as this awesome website is around.
Rock on !

Nice. That is just so goddamn gratifying. A raging debate that actually bears fruit! This game is so high on my list, I am just beside myself with glee right now.
