Out of the Blue

Huzzah and kudos to Chatbear's Bagpuss for taking a bunch of time yesterday to iron out a few things on the forums here that have helped smooth out their operation a bit. He's quite a busy guy with enough on his plate to keep him altogether too occupied to start with, and I can't thank him enough for his efforts.

You could try Opera, crispy. It's pretty nifty.

If you want lots of 'neat' features, get mozilla.
www.mozilla.org
Firebird is based off mozilla, but it is the lean version.
The mozilla package will have all that other stuff, that some find useful. Try it, if you think of your self as a "power user" that likes all the extra stuff. I personally think they suck (in every browser) and in reality the saving you two clicks, is just a waste of resources, and makes it less secure. But whatever makes ya happy!!(full mozilla does have the side bar searching)

(And what's with the loooong load-up time, I thought this thing was supposed to be 'lean-and-mean'?
This is odd, as I have a p133 laptop, with 32mb mem, It runs windows 98. It takes me less then 6 seconds to load Firebird up on it, and nearly 40 seconds to load IE. This is very odd indeed.

Well, I tried it. It definately has a couple nice things about it, but I stil prefer the way IE handles searching (the search side-bar). Pop-up blocking I already have.

When you do get firebird

http://texturizer.net/firebird/faq.html
http://plugindoc.mozdev.org/faqs/

After you get your few basic plugins installed, (real,QT,Flash,Shockwave, Java) you are good to go buddy!
Even if ya have a little trouble at the start, to get the plugins to work right, stick with it, and just ask for help. It is well worth it!

Firebird does not suck.
I have been using it for awhile now!
It is the bombizzle!

Fast, Simple, Clean, SECURE, and it gets ride of popups built in!

Quick note,
If you do not downloaded the version with the installer, you need to add a registery key then, so certian plugins work.

OK, after hearing people evangelize about this Firebird thing I've decided to download the thing and try it.

I'm warning you though, if it sucks I'm coming after you people!

Just got one of those pop-over dealies, the ones that don't actually have a window and instead move all over the place on the mainpage (can't think of what they are called right now). It was for the new BF1942 addon, I think. And yes, I ran AdAware right after to make sure that it did come from this site. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I thought we wouldn't be seeing those.

Oh and one thing i forgot to mention, my Firebird also (with some extentions, open links in a background tab, so I can click hundreds of ads and links on Blue's , and continue reading, and when (or if) I'm ready to read them, they are finished loading in the back.. so i just left click a tab to read it, and/or middle click to close it.

if you block popups you are stealing money from blue

Well yes and no, with programs like Mozilla Firebird you can choose to accept pop-ups from specified sites.(such as Blue's) Also, Blue either gets money per unique visitor, or more likely, when someone clicks on an ad, so I could still click on a normal banner ad here to "give him money".. also, I've actually tried whatching some pop-ups here, and as it turns out I get that new jackie chan movie thing where I have to fill in an Area code, and since I live in the "not America" part of the world, i dont have an area code.. but one day I may be lucky enough to get to click an actual bluesnews pop-up.. cant wait

avant browser is pretty nice stuff. Although, all ity needs now is a non MS mail client and it would start to approach the convenience of Mozilla or opera.

Or if you happen to use IE but want more 'modern' features like tabbed windows, etc. try this:

http://www.avantbrowser.com/

It's free, includes a pop-up stopper, and kills flash anims too. You'll have 20% more fun than plain vanilla IE with IE's security holes as an added bonus! USB-powered ginsu-pocket-fisherman-George Foreman-grill sold separately.
