Valzante.... This is obviously a troll. Normally, I usually find most trolls funny, and the responses they bring.
But Blue has been openly honest about this situation. He has also had the decency to deal with us personally. He has also opened up parts of his personal life to us. And for someone that is just trying to make a decent living, I really do not like the idea of this troll. Especially from someone who has been a forum member for as-long as you.
All peoples differences and arguments aside on this board, Blue has been honest, open, and personal. Go find that at IGN, ohh wait, it is not ran by one person, but by a corporation. Blues is unique, and I will continue visiting. And while I will complain about annoying sound AD's, I will be happy.
But then again, he could go get a job, get paid regularly (both time wise and amount wise) and work for IGN, for sure with his credentials, he could get a nice paying gig their. Something like “chief news editorial administrator of articles”.
Sooo…
To People complaining Go buy some of those internet money deals, or lots of gift certificates to Amazon, or something, and send that to him… Orr…

I think whatever Blue chooses to do with his life or this website, he is already a far more successful man than you could hope to be. Way to prove your point by acting like a dick.
I am sad to see that Blue has had to put up an entry page on this website, but whatever it takes to keep this place in the green, so be it. But Blue, seriously, if there is another way to go about this, via paypal or subscription to remove ads or anything, many of us are willing. I know you've said in the past you don't want to rip off the people who come here, but it seems to me like a monthly goal or something along those lines wouldn't be out of line. I for one would definitely contribute.

I couldn't believe it when I came here and saw that ad for "Jeepers creepers 2". I have long respected Blue and this site because of its "plain vanilla" design and its lack of pay-pal begging and pop ups. It looks like the time has come to stop giving this pathetic little man any more web page hits.
Has it become so expensive that your cushy white collar job can't pay the bandwidth bill? I find that hard to believe. Funny how being an, ahem "Net Celebrity" changes a man. Maybe Blue doesn't even have a job, maybe he supports his family through sales of BLUES NEWS t-shirts and mousepads. Isn't that how all these net geeks are doing it now? Staying home 24/7 and selling useless trinkets to other geeks who have too much money and not enough brainpower left to know what to do with it?
Well, yet another website has fallen. This place now looks worse then Hudson after one of his run ins with the skunk.
Get a job, Blue.

"...and even though I never got the front ad so far..."
On a similar note, I did not even get this advertisement until reading the message on this board and disabling cookie control in ZoneAlarm Pro (set to "Off" from the usual "Medium" setting.)
I seriously doubt that I will permanently change this setting, getting even more junk tossed my way, just for this one advertisement. I still let some advertisements through, I keep the ad bloacking feature disabled and randomly click on advertisements from time to time for "click through" credit, but I feel/think that should be more than enough.
Again, I would be more than willing to donate money directly. Screw greed, screw freeloaders, screw the way things should be done, screw everybody else - I realize how "wrong" of an idea people find this and I could honestly care less - Stephen, how much money do you make on each advertisement *I* click on versue the money that *I* would freely donate.
Curious, Ray

I would also like to add, that I would gladly pay to be a subscriber to this site if need be. The amount of information that is being managed here is WELL beyond most pay sites I have seen.
Out of the Blue is my favorite section with all the cool links.

Everything has been said about this there is to be said, but Blue won't let people donate, so this is what happens. The good news is I can get the same information here, as in several other places, without the hugeass intro ad's. They look very unprofessional at the least, at most they make me hesitant to click my blues news link. Expecialy since if its a really shitty flashing blinking ad for some shitty "Jeepers Creepers" movie.
Why don't you:
1) Allow for donations. 2) Host a forum that members pay to acess, excatally like SA did. Hell half of SA's content comes from user made BS that they never had back when it was free. Think blue, you could finaly ban Fredrickson, I guess you'd rather add annoyance than content.
People pay for content willingly, people do not like stupid full page unavoidable adds, without even an OPTION of paying for an add free version. Get with it man, you're not a tool so get out of that tool shed and get with the business.
Edit: Because some of you are total tools.
I realize you can skip the ad's but you can not avoid thier appearance, so they are using English, unavoidable. I also am not saying i'm boycotting BluesNews, I'll just be less likely to come here as often through out the day. Thats probably good and bad, less bandwith used for blue, but less ad revenue also. What gets me is blue is so adamant on keeping everything free, even at the expense of the quality of the site. I would rather pay 10 bucks a year or whatever for a totaly ad free page, with awsome feature filled forums, and the like. In fact the only reason I never signed on with IGN is by the time they went to pay, I felt the target crowd was a bit younger than I liked. AKA: I dont want to deal with 5 fifteen year old idiots per every one intellegent person. Even if I piss you all off or never agree, at LEAST for the most part you're all intellegent, if misinformed. =) This comment was edited on Aug 19, 21:52. |

I've been with Blue since before time... back even before he did a weekly internet streaming quake show (how many of us remember that)... I'll stick with him but I feel if there is ANY friggin way around him putting them in, he would have done it... Yea it pisses me off, but Blue and I go way back, and I owe it to him... (Not like he knows who I am, but I've read this page since I can remember surfing the net)...

What would be even better is a subscription-based page without ads. I would gladly contribute to the site.
Unfortunately I do not think this will work very well. Slashdot has that, and it is not doing all the great for them(it is not losing them money, it just aint making them a lot either), and they even add the subscribers, get most of the articles 10-15min ahead of non-subscribers.
IGN, that you pay for, to remove all add's is ridiculously expensive. But they also offer exclusive downloads. They also tie that in with a hoard of websites, and ad revenue from those websites.
All in all, I do not think it will work well unless you have lot's of unique content, or porn.
These kind of add's are not that bad, under certain conditions.
1. They are not so large it takes forever to load for dial-up users. 2. They do not force you to wait, they do allow you to click through, and it does not load a popup when you click through. 3. They are not too animated, some is fine, but let's not have a 30 sec long flash-ad. 4. No sound, period...end of story!
And, by what Blue said, about them (once all the kinks getting worked out) should not appear for you more then once in a 24 hour period is great! As IGN's is totally random, some times from going from page 1 to page 2 of a article I get them, and then again from page 4 to page 5!
So this does sound like a decent solution to me, for now.
One thing though, All ad's in general on the internet, do not seem targeted to the proper audience well. I think, if they would take time, and really do this. The actual click through rate, from interest in the product would go up 10 fold. I have never once seen an AD that interested me on Blues News. Well, a few game ad’s sorta got my interest, but when Blue then just has a link to the review, or screen shots on the page, that in my opinion is a better ad then anything!
I still say Blues gotta start reviewing hardware. Even if he does not think he has enough knowledge(I got no idea if he does). He can hit the angle, Can/Will the average be able to get the full benefit from this piece of hardware, kinda thing….then sell the old stuff on eBay for even more money!

I'm sure you're father was being polite. Animals are clever and cunning too but that's different from utilizing raw intelligence. POP! Thats the sound you'll hear when you eventually pull your head out of your ass Halsy. My Dad has never said a single thing about a person that they didn't deserve. If he though Sergeant Major Ripka was vastly smarter than he could ever hope to be, thats because Sergeant Major Ripka deserved that compliment. I'm sure he'd think of you as an arrogant man who has no depth perception when it comes to judging people and character.
You are by far the most arrogant person I have ever met. Your arrogance blinds you to the fact that there are very intelligent people (more so than you I'd wager) that fit neatly into your "sheep" generalization. You'll just have to realize this on your own because it is clear no one on these message boards can convince you otherwise.
For the record, I don't believe I have ever said that I believe we were attack because of our "freedoms". Nor have I ever said I was for the war in Iraq. My problem with you Halsy has been your condescending tone, untrue generalizations about people, and general arrogant manner that makes me glad I have only known you through the internet.

And to whoever that quits the site because of the ads, then just leave. Blue has been doing an amazing job all these years, and even though I never got the front ad so far, I would support Blue.

That is the right way... for better or for worse, the ads in question are MSIE only. I don't know that they will stay that way, but I am told they could not be properly coded for other browsers and should not display on them at all. Ok, so I was not just getting exceptionally lucky! I loaded up IE (ya know, since it is built in XP) And I got them right away.
I will point-out though, the those kind of ad's still work in Mozilla/Firebird on sites by/served by IGN.
I do not find them too annoying, Except every time IGN randomly changes the side the "go to page" link is on, that is annoying.
As long as they are not popups, and those do not really bother me. It is popups that when you close keeps loading others.
But, yes they can work with browsers out-side of IE. Just tell them to visit a IGN site and rip-off their code! Because even though most AD's are annoying, they are just like non-premium TV stations...gotta have em!(unless you are selling a product!) And I am all for supporting the funk! I mean Blues News! But I really do not want to use IE. (since Mozilla/Firebird does get ride of annoying popups(as well as other neat features!).

Bunko, ask me if I really care. That's the whole case in one point, Halsy.
And education has nothing to do with how smart someone is. Anyone can get a PhD by kissing ass, sucking up and getting others to do your work. Some of the smartest people are those who apply themselves in other areas, rather than academia. One of the smartest, funniest people I know didn't even make it to highschool. Now he's a self made millionaire. I disagree with his politics but he's a very smart and worldly person. An automechanic may be smarter than the professor but he has applied himself in other places than the world of education. You can be smart, but not do well in school. Some criminals are quite brilliant. A degree is just a piece of paper that took you a long time to earn. It means something to people like you, who interpret it as intelligence. To others, it means nothing. I'm not saying education is bad. It can enrich your life. But some enjoy the enrichment of something other than the typical educational establishment.

Today marks an interesting day in internet history for me. An original viewer back to the days of blues quake rag, BluesNews has been my homepage for many years. However, I can no longer ignore the number of ads this site has added and it's clear that it's time to move on. Thanks for the all of the vital information you've given me. I enjoyed every minute. I'll stop by BluesAdService from time to time, just to see how bad it gets.
