Out of the Blue

Thanks to all who offered thoughts on the multiprocessor gaming question I asked yesterday. The confirmation that SMP support is pretty much non-existent for most all games is borne out by the results I have from reworking my game machine. The ongoing beauty of Win98 as a gaming OS also gets a vote of confidence here, as the single-processor Win98 machine is running rings around the multiprocessor Win2k machine, in spite of more theoretical horsepower in the Win2K box.

Now if I could only get games to run under MS-DOS 6.22, I'd really be getting somewhere.

I'd definitely second the recommendation of XP over win2k for games - though I'd go for Pro over Home. Win2k was never a great games platform.

I don't know why - it's not like Pro is going to run any faster than Home.

But defintiely get Pro, since I don't believe Home supports SMP (or Remote Desktop, which is a life saver).

You're probably right about SMP - but the point was single proc systems - not dual.

Home does support Remote Desktop - although other products do it better...
