Half-Life 2 Delayed

Half-Life 2 delayed on GameSpot (thanks Boomtown) has word that Valve's shooter sequel will not make its planned release date. Here's the deal:

Today we received word from the game's publisher, Vivendi Universal, that Half-Life 2's release has been delayed until later this year. Without commenting on the delay, a Vivendi Universal representative reaffirmed that the game would ship this year, sometime during the holiday season.

They'd be nuts to release it on 11/28/03, the day after Thanksgiving. Granted, it's the most busy shopping day of the year, most stores would probably not have the game stocked. They need to stay with the September 30th date so the stores can stock their shelves. Word of mouth advertising would then spread, and parents would buy the game the day after Thanksgiving.

the only reason the delayed it is because doom 3 is comming out at the beginning of next year and they dont want to be beat by them. i wouldent be supprised if they came out about the same time that doom 3 cam out i hope that doesnt happen but it is possible

I've almost beaten Half-Life agian, and I have to say if the sequal is as entertaining as the orginal, and plays as well, also. Then we're going to be in for an albit single minded, interesting treat. Whenever the game manages to ship.

FWIW? What does that mean? I need time to save for the upgrade anyways if it's delayed. A PIII 600 minimum requirement? Even the bink movies are running slow on my computer... I'm in trouble.

Half Life wasnt scratch it was a Heavily modified quake 1 engine. Half Life was also a year late. ~Halo

Thoughts after slogging through 130+ messages: "First time I've heard about this" != "HL2 will ship on time" Why is there such inordinate trust in Valve, anyway? Half-Life was the only game they developed from scratch, right? That's not an extensive track record. Does anybody else worry that if Half-Life 2 turns out to be garbage the suicide rate will go up? My thoughts exactly. There sure are a lot of people investing their lives around a stupid game. Oh well. At least all these posts help me whittle away time until lunch break. -- Eric W.
