doubt this will help for you but for me I had to run dxdiag and turn sound acceleration all the way up - had it turned down to help performance in another game. Boy how I love reconfiguring my system for every game these days know what you mean
will check system when back at home...Didn't know companies still used Bink to do their videos.
thanks.

I ran the game in 1024x768 in high 32bit, that worked fine. The video while playstation'ish ran fine too. Loading isnt bad either.
I'm happy, Also my guess is since this is such a new idea and I think sickpuppies is a new company and don't even have a website they will see how sales happen before maybe making an expansion pack. Like another town, or something.

if you go to gogamer.com you can get the UK version for about 35 bucks. I've ordered from them a few times, and have yet to run into any problems.

Bluesdude,
There are various powers that cause your ghost to manifest itself to mortals - strange vision, chase etc.
Terror Incarnate is quite nice, varies from ghost to ghost but with one, a murdered cop, her eyes pop out of her head and she spews out torrents of maggots. Another literally rips himself in two, with blood fountaining out.
Another of the powers lets a ghost disguise themself as a mortal and spin their head - Exorcist style. Pretty sweet.
But yeah in most ways it's more Ghostbusters than true horror.

| It's probably a Bink video - when encoded wrong those things suck framerate wise. You can have a top of the line system and it'll chug like a little bitch on a 640x480 movie. |

Yeah, I kinda agree. Some key things like actually revealing your ghost or making sick and twisted apparitions seem missing. Seems like mostly poltergiesting. The SIMness is ok to observe but the scaring and reactions could be more meaty.

The video played fine for me and it was actually a pretty good warm up.
About the paranoid features... I thought that if I targeted one person amoung many it would effect them differently than if I scared the pants off the entire house. It didn't seem to do that though.
I'll give it a try tonight with moaning, wind, chains, etc.
I also checked amazon.com and they say the game will be released on Sep. 2nd. That's a pretty long way off.

Got the full game when it was released a few weeks back here in the UK. It's a lot of fun, quite original but a bit short.
Although many of the later levels require you to just scare everyone away there are also a number of puzzle type levels where you are required to achieve specific objectives and scaring everyone isn't a good idea
There are specific powers which increase or make use of madness, only some of the ghosts have them, I don't think any of the ghosts in the demo have these powers.
Fainting is caused by a specific power (scared to death) but some really nasty high level powers (like terror incarnate) will cause fainting in some mortals, seems to be pretty random though.
As for gore there are powers that make walls bleed (seeping blood), blood pour from water fittings like showers and sinks (gore) and one particularly nasty one that fills entire rooms with blood (gushing blood). Good enough for ya? This comment was edited on Jun 16, 08:35. |

I don't think it's part of the tutorial level. (which by the way was the only level that came with my demo)
Yes there's only the one level, but the tutorial itself is optional, you can turn it off.

On a side note did anybody notice in the display options 32 bit is in the middle? anyways, I think insane will be something that requires A LOT of plasma, something so physocloigically mind mashing it just snaps em.
Like In the ring, the chick who got killed at the begining, well her friend ended up in a mental hospital because she saw Samara climb out of a TV and do what ever to her friend. That's why in the hospital they hold that screen next to her when she walks by the room with the TV.
EDIT- Also there has to be some grusomeness to the game because one of the girls fears was blood. I'm guessing maybe making the house bleed, come out of the shower, fill a pool, something awsome.

Tips... |

Sarcasmo |

...surprises (obviously) make people faint. Which means using strong abilities on people who are calm. Only time I've seen already frightened folks faint is when I happened to have a ghost who came with a very high level power already unlocked.
From what I've seen, paranoia and madness are long term goals. Cold, rain, distant thunder, moaning, all the subtle stuff seems to add to paranoia. For me, the key to lots of paranoia bonuses is slowly building with powers like that, to small 'appearances' and tricks, then going back down, and ramping it back up repeatedly. Madness gets easier to induce later in the game, but to begin with your only methods are, I think, footsteps and laughter. I'm pretty sure neither is available in the tutorial. Rattling chains/moaning might also do it. Hitting someone's subconscious fear helps drive them mad, but in my experience it also scares them, and they usually run before they go insane.

I singled out the spider lady for an hour. I was certain that she was paramoid or even super paranoid. She was running around squaking to everyone. Anyway... I finish it up without a single point for paranoid?!?!
I couldn't even get the madnes level to change for any of them either. I don't think it's part of the tutorial level. (which by the way was the only level that came with my demo)
On the plus side I got someone to faint! They were watching TV without any terror. I gave them the spiders right on top of her head and she keeled right over.

This is alright for children but I was really disappointed with it. I want a haunting game with blood, gore, and demonic shit. This should be a real hit with sims fans though.
I suggest NOT doing the tutorial unless you want to hear a bossy bitch ramble on for like 30 minutes.

Yep, if you max out the madness bar the mortal will run around the house insanely from room to room. It's easier to scare people out of house than to drive them mad.
An idea to drive someone mad is to find out a mortal's fear and use it against them.. I think you may be able to find it in their info or there's ghosts you can get that have the ability to reveal a mortal's fear. I think that's the way to drive someone insane though..

This game totally slipped under the radar for me and I'm glad I decided to try the demo. Props to devs for coming up with a pretty unique concept.
