Take Two versus Duke

Developers of Duke Nukem take on Take Two on CNN Money is an article examining some of the behind-the-scenes intrigues between Take Two Interactive and 3D Realms surrounding Duke Nukem Forever, 3D Realms' 'when its done' shooter. The article discusses the recent shots fired in this conflict (story), and describes why, even as tensions may be surreptitiously rising, this situation is likely to remain a standoff:

Both companies are caught in a nasty Catch-22, though. 3D Realms says it is fully funding the game, which takes away any leverage Take Two might normally have. But 3D Realms can't shop the game to another publisher, no matter how frustrated it gets despite Broussard's claims that "we'd find a new publisher so easily it isn't even funny."

Publishers would jump all over DNF.

Massive brand-name recognition will sky-rocket sales regardless of quality.

Even moreso, little investment is necessary. 3D Realms will just want a massive cut of profits. As close to free money as you can get in this industry.

And people said jobs for life no longer exist.

As long as you are a co-owner....

I would hate to work on the same project, day after day for what, how many years? I'd lose what was left of my mind.

I see the point, this is going to be another thread in which stupidity reigns.

Other than that, I don't see why any publisher wouldn't want a deal with a developer who finances himself, such as 3DR.
Other than the occasional retarded, but entertaining, rant post by one of it's employees.

The article didn't mention that DNF was vaporware, and that G Broussard has no credibility. He seemed to have missed the point.

That the job security for working on DNF is pretty sweet.
And people said jobs for life no longer exist.

"we'd find a new publisher so easily it isn't even funny."

So....publisher's are just leaping at the chance to throw money into a sinkhole'd void that will have the daikatana effect of "would have been great 4 years ago"?

A bit naive I feel....

No real insight. Just regurgitation of current fact/opinion.

Don't know why I thought there might be something groundbreaking in that article, but I did.

Speaking of which, how did "Chris Morris" get that job writing about video games for CNN? What a gig. Let's see, "How about I regurgitate crap I read on a message board and make XX thousand of dollars a year". I think Blue should apply for his job.

Another DNF thread, eh?

I'm gonna wager this thread gets...47 posts. Yeah, 47.

Mentioning Doom3, HL2 or DNF is always good for at least 20 posts.

Well, that should be good for another couple of deleted/locked threads at the 3DR board.
