GTA Vice City Patch

This Take 2 Games Support Page now offers a new patch for the English and German versions of Grand Theft Auto: Vice City, updating the 80s-themed crime spree game to version 1.1. This is an unsupported patch "that corrects polygon corruption that has been noticed on certain video cards and PC combinations." Thanks Gamer's Hell and Tiscali Games where the updates are mirrored. Word is: "Users who DO NOT have this corruption NEED NOT apply this patch."

Have you guys tried the no-cd patches? They work great for me, and the game runs fine...of course, you have to do the full install...

Hey, man.. I'm sorry, this is an ATI vs nVidia thread, you can't go posting offtopic crap like that.....

Oh, waittt.... nevermind.

Since you brought it up, I'm not having too many problems with CD access. I did a full install, which probably helps... my game hangs for a second sometimes, but for the most part it's surprisingly smooth.

No polygon corruption that I can see.. lots of *other* corruption, but I gather that thats meant to be part of the gameplay.

Vice City seems to have the exact same problems for me that GTA 3 did...mainly my friggin' CD drive probably hasnt made as many revolutions in its entire life as it has in the few days I have had Vice City. Also random freezing...it looks to be pretty much the same engine, I just wish they would have focused some on fixing these annoying problems.

It seems that nvidia is trying to copy 3dfx's winning strategies.

Remember when the voodoo3 were starting to get beaten badly by Nvidia cards, 3dfx released their new cards that were not that much better but were HUGE physically. now Nvidia has their double PCI slot sized Geforce FX's....

Good point, kyleb.

I hope so, too. It's always better with competition.

Still, it's funny to listen to people who got stuck with nvidia cards try to justify their purchase by making up nonexistant problems about ATI cards.

Remember when nvidia drivers "sucked" to voodoo owners?

regardless of the add campains i hope they get their act together, last thing we need is a one company industry like we had during the geforce2 ultra to gefroce 4 era. things move a lot better when the compitition is on.

Do you know how to update your drivers?

I have a 9700 pro, and have never seen a problem in AVP 2, or GTA 3.

NVidia better snap out of it, or they are going to go the way of the VooDoo...

Remember right before 3dfx folded their doors, they had an add campaign similar to what nvidia is doing now. "The way it's meant to be played", lol, what a joke. When you fall behind in the speed race for vid cards, you just make up a slogan and suck developers asses so you can get a logo at the beginning of the game. It's been done before, and it didn't work last time. Let's see how long it works this time.

yea sorry, I should have added that I speak of other games like arx fatalis, avp2, mc2 etc. and thats not only polygon corruption, that are texture failures at their best aswell.
oh and I have serveral friends too that claimed their graphics are flawless with their radeon until I saw it running on their rig. A-W-E-S-O-M-E! *cough*
jfyi, those errors are why I changed to nvidia again (too bad because I like the ATi AF and Truform very much). and if you still dont get it, I am still using radeons (8500, 9700P) in my other rigs.

use a radeon card and you will see what that is

Funny that, me and several friends all have Radeons in various forms (9500, 9800 pro) and the game is flawless. Another friend with a FX 5800 on the other hand gets severe corruption.

ox·y·mo·ron ( P ) Pronunciation Key (okse-moron, -mr-)
n. pl. ox·y·mo·ra (-m, -mr) or ox·y·mo·rons

A rhetorical figure in which incongruous or contradictory terms are combined, as in a deafening silence and a mournful optimist or an unsupported patch

Some polygons simply fails to show up. It just sound better with "polygon corruption" then, "we didn't notice stuff didn't appear".

errrr....what exactly is polygon corruption ?

I'm more curious than worried that I might have it.

It's not related to SAR's is it
