"The 'arcade' boxes look suspiciously like a chair, a monitor, and a keyboard/mouse."

You didn't think they'd try to run CS on a System 22 board do you!? <Giggle>

"Is Namco the only supplier of arcade machines now? "

You'd think so - but I think that they are the only ones still left in the business of running chain arcades except for destination locations like Dave and Busters. Of course, D&B Nyack has a healthy supply of Namco games in addition to some old Sega classics. Even old faithfuls like Ms Pac Man are owned by Namco, which almost makes you wonder if they are going to turn into the Microsoft of the arcades!

The 'arcade' boxes look suspiciously like a chair, a monitor, and a keyboard/mouse. Top with hourly pricing and voila (or better yet, 'wallah!'), you have an overpriced arcade box which would probably be better used to foot a LAN+more PCs. (Virtual On, anyone? fun game, though.)

Is Namco the only supplier of arcade machines now? I was under the (probably wrong) impression that Sega was still tagging along in arcade boxes.

As soon as I read "Japanese beta tester" and "arcade", I knew 2 things before I even read the story:

1. Namco was behind it
2. It was a closed beta test taking place in Japan.

Of course, I used to work for Namco a number of years ago...

I imagine that Cyberstations, Time Outs and Space Ports across the US will have this by mid-summer
