I didn't actually think this thread was so full of personal attacks, aside from the verbal pushing and shoving which normally accompanies this sort of debate. Then again, most of the time the verbal lashings (at least on this forum)come from disagreements about which games readers like, hate, have casual disregard for, and/or ones they wish had better netcode.

Until the F-you post by tanto, perhaps.

Then again, we all get frustrated.

I just need to point out once... the phrase "peace necks" is a bit of a malapropism... I think the phrase you are looking for when condescending in this manner is "peaceniks."

226. The real Last Word Mar 26, 2003, 13:03 [SPZ]SPANKER

I think as this war goes on and Saddam's true nature reveals itself, more and more people will be hopping on the war wagon.

People didn't want to go into world war II even though Hitler had the gas chambers running. It wasn't until Pearl Harbor came, people changed their opinions. Was Hitler responsible for Pearl Harbor? No. We have all this evidence of a cruel dictator and we have 9-11, and yet people still hold back.

This War is good. It will bring along much needed change. What the hell would it take to get peace necks on board? I know if they bombed one of the movie studios you wouldn't see as many actors on the peace bandwagon.

Even though I never new one of those people in the world trade center, I felt for them. One image that struck me hard was in the time magazine article, it showed a woman standing in the gaping hole where one of the first planes hit, she was looking out and down in a daze. I thought to myself: this woman died a little bit after this photo was taken, after the building collapsed. Looking over all of the photos of the people lost, all of the everyday normal people, in them I saw family, friends, neighbors..... the last thing we need is a guy like Saddam giving a terrorist a chem/nuke bomb.

I liked a quote from what Bono said: "When I was younger I couldn't really picture how somebody could kill, but now that I have my own children, I can at least understand" I think this is true, the older you get the more conservative you get. When you are young you tend to be idealistic, looking at the world through your rose colored glasses. You realize when you get older, that shit has to be dealt with, it just doesn't go away by talking.

Sometimes it is time for the hammer. Because you realize you have something more to lose and you must do everything you can to protect those things dear to you.

So, to the peace necks: Do the hard thing, stand up for something that's worth fighting for. Help protect your country, show some backbone. It may not be original for you and you may not get as much attention, but it's the right thing to do.

Bravo Blue.

The whole problem with the world is that fools and fanatics are always so certain of themselves, but wiser people so full of doubts.

The fool doth think he is wise, but the wise man knows himself to be a fool.

I am not happy about this, and I think folks are quite aware that I try not to take too active a hand in moderating these forums, but enough is enough.

Uh, wow.

Finally, I have let the Fredrickson menace run its course from amusing trolling, to hardcore trolling, to what's become an out-and-out attempt to hijack every thread to his personal agenda.

Just one question here in an attempt at levity:

What exactly is his personal agenda?

Looks like you are going to loose your playmate nin.

I cannot, and do not wish to dictate the direction of these threads. I will, however, say that I am tired of seeing arguments degenerate into personal attacks.

Going forward, please refrain from these type of personal attacks (attack ideas, not people), and while I'm not too worried about foul language, I'd also like to see the word "gay" (and its 'leet variations) dropped as an adjective other than in cases where you are describing how joyful you are.

Finally, I have let the Fredrickson menace run its course from amusing trolling, to hardcore trolling, to what's become an out-and-out attempt to hijack every thread to his personal agenda. Fred, you can expect to see a lot of your posts of this nature deleted from now on, I have been more than patient, and you have no one but yourself to blame for this individual treatment (in other words, if it seems I am picking on you, it's because I am--you've earned it).

There will be posts deleted based on the above. I am not happy about this, and I think folks are quite aware that I try not to take too active a hand in moderating these forums, but enough is enough.

And why haven't you said anything to the people on here that were spreading "Iraq gassed their own people" as if it was undisputed fact even though we've known for several years now that it was Iran that gassed them?

Bullshit. There, I've responded to your "undisputed" fact. Oh, by the way, 3,000+ chemical suits found today in Iraq. Obviously there to protect them from Iran.

I'm not sick of you people. I'm not laughing at you people.
I'm not proven right, or wrong. I don't revel in your stereotypes, I don't smile at this war. I don't have a witty little one-liner with a dash of cynicism and a sprinkling of bad taste. No.

I just want to say fuck you. To every last one of you people who would talk about this war. I want to say fuck you to every last person who carries a sign. Carries a baby doll spattered with red paint. I want to say fuck you to every person who watches CNN while it shows half an hour of the same footage clips, rants about evil and then cuts to commercials by Nike, and the "Army of One".
I want to say fuck you to the America's Army video game.
To the people of Iraq, I want to say fuck you for allowing yourselves to be taken advantage of in this way. I want to say fuck you to every person who feels they must shout out their opinion of how this war will go, is going, and how it 'probably'/'possibly'/'could have' been avoided/started.
Fuck you, to every individual who believes that they have the answer.
Every individual who thinks they understand better then the last, how people die.
Fuck you, to every soldier. To every gun toting motherfucker.
To every political icon, fuck you.
To every family who has allowed their child to become a 'warrior'/'soldier'/'slaughterer'/'defender'/'marine'/'terrorist'

I just have one question for all you self-important, over-analyzing, over-opinionated, rant-monkeys:
What defines a terrorist
answers:
Those who fight for a cause?
Those who fight for a lost cause?
Those who harm the innocent for a cause?
Those who harm women and children for a cause?
Those who would do anything for a cause?
Those who fight without a cause?
Those who randomly destroy things in the name of a cause?
Those who kill for a cause?
Those who have no cause?
Those who need a cause?
Those who do not understand cause?
Those who simply are the cause?

fuck you.

214. Opinion: Mar 25, 2003, 21:13 Propagandhi

Why is it so "cool" for males (young, old, whoever) to support this war whole heartedly, with (as far as I can tell) no regard for the outcome. I support the removal of Saddam's regime whole heartedly, but a U.S. led war isn't going to get it done.

Yes, Saddam will no longer be in power (probably dead, maybe on the run) but setting up the next government in a manner that will 1) allow a degree of freedom to the Iraqi populations and 2) not put someone in power whom will be no better from an anti-terrorist perspective is impossible. The stupidity of the American (North American?) male is astounding, for some reason (unknown to me) they think that the Iraqi people support this U.S. coalitions actions.. haha.. heh...

I hate when people that don't understand the perspective of the Middle East community and get involved anyway (myself, bush, and you morons included)...
