After a stretch where the older version was not updated as work progressed on the update, the Lavasoft Website now carries a new version 6 of Ad Aware (thanks MajorGeeks). The new version of what's become an indispensable internet utility (which finds and eliminates spyware and scumware) could not come at a better time for me, as I have recently been afflicted by a bout of self-spawning pop-ups... I can only hope the 40-some suspicious items it found on my computer included the source of this bother so it can be eliminated. Yeesh.

Self-Spawning Pop-ups

as I have recently been afflicted by a bout of self-spawning pop-ups... I can only hope the 40-some suspicious items it found on my computer included the source of this bother so it can be eliminated.

Hmm, I'm wondering if these aren't traditional pop-up's your expertiencing. Recently I found that even when I wasn't using my browser I would get strange pop-up ads. I thought maybe it was something I could catch using ad-aware but I ran it several times and got nothing. I later found out that these are pop-ups sent remotely using your ip. It basically causes your system to display a message and uses no extra software on your side...they just need an ip. If you think this might be the case, check your firewall. I've been running a free version of ZoneAlarm for a couple months now and no self generating pop-ups.
