DF: Black Hawk Down Demo Plans

Delta Force: Black Hawk Down Official Single /Multiplayer Demo announced is the press release with details on the planned release of a new demo to offer a sampling of both the solo and the multiplayer play in Black Hawk Down, the upcoming Delta Force game based on the conflict in Somalia. The demo will debut exclusively on www.nvidia.com on February 4, with mirror sites to become available beginning February 7. Here's a bit on what this will include:

The demo will feature one single player mission entitled "Diplomatic Immunity." The objective of the mission is to recapture a UN building being held by Habr Gadir militia. Delta Teams 2 and 5 insert by helicopter and must locate and secure hostages before escorting them to a waiting convoy for extraction.

A new multiplayer map, playable over the NovaWorld Games Network and via LAN, will also be included featuring the Team Capture the Flag game type. Entitled "Bridge over the Jubba River," the level is an open terrain map that has several bridges across the river and green rolling hills. To reach the enemy's flags, players will need to cross the river by either securing one of the bridges or swimming across the water.

Easy there, trog. My Sarcasm Meter is starting to red-line here.

I agree. Exactly why are they only releasing it thru nvidia first anyway? It's not like the game is so graphics intensive that nvidia should want their "the way it's meant to be played" logo on it or something.

Great, exclusive demos! This idea has worked SO WELL in the past and it such a GREAT WAY for developers and publishers to get their product to as many people as possible!

Could be worse, I guess; it could be a game I actually wanted to play instead of a cheap, nasty cash in title anyway.

I didn't think the multiplayer demo(s?) where that good but I enjoy the single player demo. It does a very good job of making you feel out numbered but well equiped, much like the US soldiers must have really felt. It could be excellent in co-op, in fact I think I'd buy it if there is co-op (and better AI), but probably not otherwise.

Cheers,

5. And I'm spent.... Jan 30, 2003, 17:12 neeleyman

I enjoyed playing the first DFBHD demo when it originally came out. I even recommended it to a friend. Being former military, I appreciate the attention to detail that is put into the tactical aspect of the game. But, the more I play it, the more DFBHD (or any other DF game) starts to feel like a poor man's UT2003 in terms of graphics, sound, and overall "feel" of the game. Granted, it is a demo, but it feels exactly like the other 4 (or 5?, don't remember) versions of the game did.

Novalogic is definitely going to have to try something new in those areas in order to remain competitive with current games that make use of better hardware (i.e. UT2k3, NOLF2, MOHAA).

Or, I could just be on crazy pills and be the only person tired of the same old, same old....

Oh yeah, and the AI is really awful, too.

I played the sp demo off the coverdisk on the latest PC gamer, seemed like a decent little tactical shooter. The mission was short, but it was well done I thought. Not worth the $40-$50 retail price, but I think it's one to pick up when it dips below $30.

Or maybe the U.S. Army could use it for one of their training games.
