Uh chance you are wrong. Every game company produces an editor like the Aurora toolset to make their games. Usually they keep the tools in-house for developer use only. The reason NWN, and other games that release their editors, is cool is because they let their customers have it too. And when you say "A tile based system is never going to look as good as a 'built from the ground up' setting," well that's just BS because just about every RPG (or other games for that matter) are all made with tiling.

Scottish Martial Arts: "Well my biggest problem with NWN is it's lack of production values. The entire OC didn't have the real professional feel to it that the BG games seemed to have. I never felt like I was playing what NWN was meant to be when I played the OC. It just seemed like someone in the community made got a hold of the editor and had his work commisioned by Bioware."
Part of the problem is simple, the OC was constructed with the same Aurora toolset you get with the game. A tile based system is never going to look as good as a "built from the ground up" setting. This route was chosen as the only viable way to bring module making to the masses. I'm sure compromises were made to settings and other game material as a result. In short it *was* made just like a module. That and the necessity that it be "all things to all people" account for the mediocrity of it. I'm not one of the "I hated it crowd" but it was rather average. The "have-to-save-the-world" (or most of it) convention of CRPGs didn't help. Thats always rough on low level characters who have to be levelled up so fast (for their savior status to be belevable) that a good deal of character developmnet and actual roleplaying gets sacrificed for combat. And low level combat tends to be monotonous.

I totally agree. Don't get me wrong- I actually enjoyed the OC... but not NEARLY as much as Baldur's Gate 2. I think at this point I've played through Baldur's Gate 2 four times.. getting EVERYTHING I could and doing every quest I could each run-through. The game freakin gripped me and wouldn't let go. The OC for NWN is just entertaining enough to keep me playing to the end, I guess. I would imagine that the expansion packs and sequels and whatnot should be good though, as Baldur's Gate 1 and Icewind Dale 1 are damn near unplayable in my eyes, and their sequels are full of yummy goodness.
You know what I would like to see? A game using the NWN engine based on the Wheel of Time d20 rules.. I'm really fond of the WoT d20 system. I'm dm'ing a game of it, and it's highly enjoyable.

I have to disagree with the statment that it "feels like an amateur mod ...". It doesn't. Well my biggest problem with NWN is it's lack of production values. The entire OC didn't have the real professional feel to it that the BG games seemed to have. I never felt like I was playing what NWN was meant to be when I played the OC. It just seemed like someone in the community made got a hold of the editor and had his work commisioned by Bioware. Maybe this is just my reaction to NWN in general and not a specific module but these are my thoughts.
Don't get me wrong I think WW is superior in every respect to the OC, however it, like the OC, has the feel of a mod and not a game. I don't know maybe I knitpick too much, but despite the well written dialogue and a focus shifted away from combat (HOORAY!!!) the module did not feel like a game I would have bought at the store (In comparison to the Uplink Demo for Half-Life which I would have payed money for). Any how it's well worth the download even if to me it felt like something the community cooked up (not intended as an insult as the community has made mods far superior to any of Bioware NWN work.)

Well, pathing is a known problem for NWN in general -- it has nothing to do with this specific module. If anyone is curious about what sorts of innovative things this module includes, click on the Player Manual link in the article. The developer took a lot of pains to include cream of the crop stuff (hardcore ruleset, lootable corpees, etc...) from the community. This means it adheres a lot better to traditional D&D than the (IMHO very bad) official campaign shipped with the game -- no stone of recall, no full heal rest, a more interesting way to deal with death, etc. . .

But I'm stuck and been back around and done everything to do so far, which to me is a bad thing. Also some of the pathing is "wonky" But overall it's pretty good especially how the game starts, not original (see majority of Final Fantasy games) but it's doable.

This is really a great module. The only thing I have against it is they should have least give a few points for battle. I know it's a "role playing mod" but I feel a greatly reduced battle exp points would be nice.

This is only the first part of the series... I'm not sure how many parts there will be. I only played it for a bit and it really is great fun. I have to disagree with the statment that it "feels like an amateur mod ...". It doesn't. It plays really well and has lots of detailed role-playing elements. I hardily recommend it, and can't wait for the rest of the series.

It's good but it does have the feel of an amateur mod as opposed to a professionally crafted game.

I too played it for a bit. I have to wonder what possesed Bioware to include the shitty OC with NWN when they could have potentially included this. Granted the game feels like an amateur mod working within a game engine rather than a game with an engine designed just for it, but never the less WW is leaps and bounds ahead of the OC.

I just got done playing this new module for the last 15 minutes, and it's already waaaay better than the Official Campaign that shipped with NwN.
Well worth the download.
