Brain cells victims of video violence
(thanks Luka) is another article offering theories about video games shriveling
your frontal lobes like a steroidal weightlifter's grapes, following up on a
Japanese study this summer (story). You gotta love how admittedly
unscientific some of this stuff is, with portions like this: "Mathews
backed off from making any blanket statements about the danger of violent
videos, but he said, 'I think this information gives credence to what has become
a growing concern about what is perceived as increased violence among
adolescents.'" Among dropping crime rates, if we don't really think adolescents
are actually increasingly violent, but just need to address "concern about
what is perceived as increased violence" it seems we could treat this by
pumping a little valium into whomever shares that perception.
