I'll wager post 126 was totally sarcastic. Not so sure about 142. And 145... I think he meant 256MB RAM and a Geforce 2. But you probably knew that.

Re: Doom 3 Alpha Questions |

Where can I find the most extensive list of config/console/whatever commands for this alpha??
Also, I can run the E3 presentaion by typing "exec runact.cfg" at the console but only the first level is played. I only have a 1/2 gig of RAM. Is this why?? Is there another command that plays the whole E3-run??
BTW, it took me 60+ hours to download the alpha using KaZaA and my 56k modem and it is only worth it if you really have to see what we are in store for, but only so much more improved.
Thanks for any help anyone can give me.

I'll second this comment:
"man this is just a terrible demo. im sorry to say but id has lost my purchase. the lack of features, terrible performance, and just shoddy overall feel are embarassing to id. well i guess they couldnt keep it up for ever. i would say dont even bother downloading this demo. its just sad."
This is exactly the kind of moron I was referring to in my post. This guy actually thinks he downloaded a RELEASED DEMO. Retards like this should not even be allowed on the internet. He clearly fumbles about downloading anything he sees online, with no prior thought put into what he is actually downloading. Money says he has probably at least 5 trojans and 6 virii on his machine at any given time.

i have to agree. this demo is very bad. id should not have released it that early. it runs poor on my system although i got a 1ghz pentium and a gerforce2 with 256mb ram. i won't buy this game. i'll go back playing the dn4ever demo.

"Yes Serious Sam did repeat it. They pulled it off very well."
Yes, sir. It was no feat.
However, that doesn't save it from bad gameplay (the only reason I went through it with cheats is to check out the great graphics).

Correction, moron: 'intended for a non-interactive demo,' not 'non-interactive demo.' As in, they made a build to SHOW people at E3, not to let people interact with at E3.
Yeah, it's a lot like the Q3 engine... except it's NOT! Also, Q4 uses the same engine as DOOM III, so what is waiting for Q4 going to get you? You're so stupid it hurts.
Also, what the hell are you doing correcting John's spelling? One of the most brilliant computer minds in the world, and you've got the gall to attempt to criticize his intelligence? Shame on you.

"Making any judgements from a snapshot intended for a non-interactive demo is ill advised."
-Correction John: ‘judgments’, NOT 'judgements'. Also, the alpha version 'demo' IS interactive. Which btw is very similar to the Q3 engine. Kind of sick of it now, think I’ll just wait for Q4.

Frankly I don't understand all the hoopla over this. 1. The game will definately change before it goes gold 2. These 3 levels are very basic and just give a inside of what John and crew is up to.
3. Due to the incomplete code. I wouldn't waste anymore time on trying to play the alpha, because of poor performace and or bugs. (low frame rate playing on a machine that is a P4 1.7 w 768megs Gforce4 Ti4400)
It's just not worth the headache trying to make it run. I'll wait til spring...(last I heard its to be released)
Good day all.

#123
#1: it won't look as good on the XBox. It will look worse. By the time D3 comes out, the hardware for the PC will be kicking the ever-loving shit out of the hardware inside the XBox. Think about it.
#2: The Alpha is playable on my machine at Medium Qaulity, which is an Athlon 1700+ with a GF3. Ok, now this Alpha was made before the build they used for E3. I know this because I was at E3, and the build I saw there had a lot more features and a lot less bugs. Ok, now they ran the build at E3 on a P4 2.2GHz with a pre-release Radeon 9700 at Medium quality, 640 x 480 resolution. 3 months later, they ran the same demo at 800 x 600 on high quality at Quakecon. And a month after that, they ran a demo for a magazine on a PC with a GF4 in it at high quality. What this means is that the build id is working with right now is a bazillion times faster than the leaked Alpha. DOOM III is going to run great on a lot of machines.
#3: I'll take my 19' monitor over a 25' TV any day. Reason: high resolution.
#4: XBox Live is being used by Microsoft to gain advantage in the console market. Microsoft is already deep in: the PC games market, the enterprise market, the home user market, the Macintosh software market, the Operating System market, the C++, Java, VB, and internet tools market, the ISP market, the hardware market, and even the freaking Television market! I don't want all of the things I buy 5 years from now to have the words "Microsoft" written on them.
