I can't believe this thread is running in this direction. First of all, I don't care what the content of this video game is, it is protected by the first ammendment and is allowed to be on the shelves legally, even IF it has racist undertones. Whether or not retailers choose to sell the product is another concern. Racist games are perfectly legal, racist movies are perfectly legal and both have shown up from time to time.
Now as for their being racism in Hitman 2. Their are many different enemies in this game, of all races and they are all portrayed in evil ways. It's not just the Sikh's here. People nead to understand the concept of fiction here. Should we make all of our entertainment and media so bland that our characters are indishtinguisable and non-offensive. This happens to any form of entertainment anytime a person of a certain race portrays the evil enemy.
You want to understand the flip side of this coin read an interview by one of the many popular black actors in hollywood (Denzel comes to mind) who for years talked about how the industry was so afraid to portray a black man as an evil character that he had to play goody goody nice guys for years. Look what happened to training day, the man wins an oscar for playing a evil guy finally.
As for whoever said that we suddenly don't make movies about russia being the enemy, i'm sorry, but your statement is completely false. You mentioned Red October...ok how about Crimson Tide? Basically the same movie made later and with the same enemy. If anything Hollywood has baulked from movies (collatoral damage) which portray movies dealing with terrorism and conflict.
This reminds me of an roger ebert essay that talked about how movies today have become so non-offensive and PC that they are aimed at nobody in particular. He specifically pointed out Jay and Silent Bob (a movie fined by the Gay and Lesbian Alliance for gay jokes) as a movie that while not for everybody, was at least for somebody and had a specific audience. How the movie was fined, when the director had made a movie like Chasing Amy is totally beyond me.
People need to lighten up and remember that enternment is a media of fiction. I don't anywhere in Hitman 2 do you get the feeling that the game is a political or racial statment against any race.
For number the number 1 poster, you, who have not played the game, are just as bad as Jessie Jackson who jumped all over the movie barbershop for it's comments about MLK. he hadn't seen the movie himself and did not understand the context of the reference. I'll tell you who did understand it, African American barbers, who similary sued Jackson for being an idiot and most likely causing trouble for black filmakers anytime they want to make a statement of controversy in their films.
But you know, you're right, let's remove it all, let's be as non-offensive to every single person in the world and the game that you open up after coming home from the store will be just a blank white piece of paper and you can imagine it has a point, or has something fun to do.
