got UT 2003 Demo... |

And gave it an 8+ hour Offline / Online test myself. Much like I did back in late 1999 during the Quake 3 Arena TEST demos. But that was before I had gotten the UT Demo...
NOW, that I have played the UT 2003 Demo, I keep thinking that this has the features, the feels, and the sounds of UT... but it plays like and LOOKS like something from Q3A.
And it seems like Im not the only one that feels this way. While I was playing UT 2003 online, others seemed not to happy with this "Q3A" mod.
Im sorry, but I will NOT be playing UT 2003. I just can't get myself into it. It's just not what I was hoping for.

morgan, you are correct about the models. as for the game...
ut2003 kicks ass, it's that simple. Finally brings skill back into an FPS game. I don' get the bashing the new weapon balance has gotten. Now they're friggin balanced to stop that blind rocket and flak cannon shooting in hallways that made UT frustrating. You can't shoot 6 rockets out anymore, it's great. And holy shit, the bio-rifle is actually useful now. Go figure, people need to aim now instead of relying on nuclear sized splash damage.

Just to nitpick his review, you can view a 3D model of your player. Just pick the model and then click the button underneath the face (says something like "3D view") and voila, rotating model view. I'm at work right now so I may be wrong and you can't actually view the spinning moel in the SP setup, but I think it's a safe bet that people will use the same model for online and offline play. If you want to see what you look like, hop over to the MP player setup and view it there. Not too hard.

I don't really know how you can come to that conclusion. The game may not have the "Quake" name or "iD" printed anywhere on the box, but it's more like Quake3 than any other major FPS. If the reviewer truely had a bias for Quake3-style gameplay, he'd have rated the game a lot higher.
I think he rated the game too high as it is. UT is still the best Deathmatch FPS out there, followed by Half-Life/CS, then Q2. Q3 and UT2k3 don't belong on any gamer's shelf.

In that case, just the "WHAAA, It's not QUAKE!" portion applies.

Just FYI Thresh didn't write the review. In fact I don't think he's involved in FiringSquad anymore.
